How would you guys like to see a super low poly fleet (under 2000 polies per ship). I'm thinking that it would be good for dyna play, but also there's something to be said for the minimalistic approach. Plus, with lower detail, more models can be churned out more quickly.
-
works for me. When the fighters and missles are a flying it aint time for the for the puter to be dying
-
I thinks that would be awesome. With all of the great talent on this board, some incredible ships with low polys must be possible.
-
Before I say ya or nay, I personally would love to see a completed low poly model with textures.
-
Okay, give me a few minutes >.<
-
Somthing else to consider is LODs. If you incorperat LODs into you ships you can get all the benies of hi poly and 90% the proformance benies of the low poly ships. Bar inf that I think for todays pc 1500 to 3000 polies is a good range reserving higher numbers for things like SBs.

4.5 hours later. 2,510 triangles.

*hands Fury my cleaning bill* I say yay.

I see a error .
Its FED :P Sweet job!

Looks good,
on a side note well low poly models are a help, small texture sizes with lower resolution settings can be more game friendly.

My opinion keep SFC maps 1024x 1024 or below and try and use 1 map per model if possable to keep memory to min for low end systems. Some say bunch of small maps but use some Vulcan logic you read bunch of maps vrs 1 single map hows your head feel lol.
-
This is looking great! Can't wait for the fleet to come out.
-
I now wait for textures. :-D Even if it's just a basic aztec with no other details on the model. *twitches like a meth addict going through withdrawl*

you call 2,510 triangles super low poly ?? :D
my TMP Connie model has 1,383 polys and that i call super low poly against your other high poly models
the bridgedome is missing on your TMP Connie

I know its a bit much, so far. I'm still seeing if its a viable concept.

It is worthy for some ppl others its a waist of effort. In the end its the authors call. You know that by now im sure. ;)

Well, Dogfighter (http://"http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163385028.0.html") did a bunch of low-poly ships... Fed and Klink mostly.
If I didn't have modeling demands on me as it is (3D Animation final and stuff for a group I'm part of!) I'd actually take this up, now that I know what I'm doing 3D modeling-wise.
-
Actually, I think I might just take this model and use it for 3d Printing.
Kreeargh and I have been talking about it. I might submit some watertight/manifold meshes to shapeways and see how the printed minis come out.
