I will be visiting family in Mississippi in August and my flights both ways have 3 hours lay overs in Atlanta. Yeah, I know Mississippi in August, am I nuts? Well, I probably am but the time works for both me and my family so I will have to deal with it and can it be much worse than June last year when it was 100 plus.
My question is, is there anything worth seeing near the Atlanta airport?

I hear Atlanta has excellent titty bars.

Well, last time I was in Atlanta, I went to the World of Coca Cola and the aquarium. Since then, the aquarium has gotten whale sharks. The problem is that I don't know if you will be able to get there, back, have time to look around, and go through your nudey scan within 3 hours. Their trains were horrendously slow.

We do have titty bars here in the frozen north, :) including one that has some really good jazz on Saturdays. I was hoping that maybe just maybe there was something close although most large airports are surrounded by strip malls and cheap rentals. I should bring a book to kill the time with I suppose.

3 hours is no where near long enough to venture forth and see something. Remember, you'd have to go through full security again.
Atlanta airport is very boring and spread out; you likely will have to take a rickety subway over to another terminal. Just grab an over-priced snack and read a book.

A little too far down south for me. If ever you happen to near NYC, though, let me know.

I live about 15 miles west of Atlanta and 20 minutes from the port. And I agree 3 hours is not enough time to even step out of the parking lot. There is nothing right at the airport and running the risk of a security checkpoint again makes it all pointless.

Looks like I bring a book along. I was hoping for something along the lines of this. http://www.bvhcenter.org/ (http://www.bvhcenter.org/) While not large it is very interesting and includes a restored P38 painted up like Bong's had been.

3-hours is a good safe layover in Atlanta. If by some common luck, your plane lands on the new runway, you will have about 45 minutes to an hour and a half of taxi.

Forty Five minutes to an hour and a half! What kind of hell is my cousin putting me through? Oh well, the visit will be good. We will be either going up to Shiloh to see the battlefield or down to Mobile to see the ships.
