Last week, was a clear winner, with the Last Starfighter taking the lead.
This week, I offer ...
The Planet of the Apes (Original) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063442/ (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063442/)
Starship Troopers http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120201/ (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120201/)
Next poll will be Wednesday. and don't worry, the remakes will be in the list later.

Hard one as I liked both but Apes got my vote.
What going to be interesting is what you put against Judge Dread, or Galaxy Quest.
-
hehe, no doubt man, this one is a bit tougher I thought.
I tell ya though, you guys came up with a lot of good suggestions here. If you think of anymore, just toss me a PM or post in the original thread where we talked about this.

I had to vote for Starship Troopers as Planet of the Apes had too issues with the plots plausibility.
-
Heston is almost an auto-win, but Dina Meyer naked trumps all.
Throw in Michael Ironside and a good dose of Verhoeven campiness and it's a no-brainer.
Troopers it is.

Dina Meyer Naked, Now I am totally distracted for the rest of the day.....

Naked chick = best science fiction?
I voted for the apes. Troopers, while fun had too much campiness too it to win out over Chuck and his lady, Nova.
[first lines]
George Taylor: And that completes my final report until we reach touchdown. We're now on full automatic, in the hands of the computers. I have tucked my crew in for the long sleep and I'll be joining them soon. In less than an hour, we'll finish our sixth month out of Cape Kennedy. Six months in deep space - by our time, that is. According to Dr. Haslein's theory of time, in a vehicle travelling nearly the speed of light, the Earth has aged nearly 700 years since we left it, while we've aged hardly at all. Maybe so. This much is probably true - the men who sent us on this journey are long since dead and gone. You who are reading me now are a different breed - I hope a better one. I leave the 20th century with no regrets. But one more thing - if anybody's listening, that is. Nothing scientific. It's purely personal. But seen from out here everything seems different. Time bends. Space is boundless. It squashes a man's ego. I feel lonely. That's about it. Tell me, though. Does man, that marvel of the universe, that glorious paradox who sent me to the stars, still make war against his brother? Keep his neighbor's children starving?
Cornelius: [reading from the sacred scrolls of the apes] Beware the beast Man, for he is the Devil's pawn. Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport or lust or greed. Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother's land. Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home and yours. Shun him; drive him back into his jungle lair, for he is the harbinger of death.
George Taylor: Oh my God. I'm back. I'm home. All the time, it was... We finally really did it.
[screaming]
George Taylor: You Maniacs! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell!
To heck with plot plausability, Apes wins in drama and reflection of what man has done and could do.

Yes
-
Dude. Dina Meyer is not just any naked chick.
-
As a movie, I voted for Apes, however if we were talking about Books, Troopers wins hands down for me....

Well at least we know which head does your thinking......... ;)

The campiness was well done at least.
Until I saw Linda Harrisaon in "behind the scenes" footage I never liked her looks. I think it is because her character was always scared. In the behind the scenes footage she was still in costume but was being herself. Unfortunately she didn't have much of a career post Apes.

Well, I think you'd all agree that if these songs were included in the original version, Planet of the Apes would win hands down.

He was awesome. Doogie Himmler!
