Title: While I wasn't paying attention to the Hollywood pipeline - Conan, Apes
Post by: EschelonOfJudgemnt on August 04, 2011, 12:08:48 am
Apparently Conan The Barbarian and Rise Of The Planet of the Apes will be hitting the theaters shortly...

Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQHqNxyEaws#ws)

I'm not expecting much, seeing remakes have sucked more than usual lately, but anything's possible I guess!

I think Conan could be a good movie. Deep plots are not part of the Conan universe, both the books and the movies so the big man kicks ass and sometimes takes names plot is expected. Planet on the other hand starts from a much deeper level making it that much harder to meet expectations.

I'm more hopeful for "Rise" (based on it's trailer) than for "Conan" (which I was never much interested in to start with), maybe because "Rise" is more of a sequel/prequel than remake. The whole family's waiting for "Rise" so we made the kids sit through all the original "Ape" movies, and after the first, they become spectacularly bad. (But still not as awful as the remake of "Planet of the Apes" by Tim Burton, IMHO, ugh. Like the Matrix sequels, I've tried to convince my kids that it does noe exist.)

Given how movies are done today, I wonder if they're leaving the door open in "Rise" for a new series..

actually Rise is more of a remake of Conquest of the Planet of the Apes. You can watch it here:

When I saw Conan The Destroyer in theaters  with a friend waaay back when, I still remember, in the scene where Princess Jehnna awakens after a bad nightmare, my friend leaned over and asked 'where are your eyes looking right now?'...

We'll see how hot the new Conan babes are.  Blame Mr. Frazetta for that expectation!

Could it be that, after about 100 years of filmmaking, they've run out of original ideas?  Say it isn't so!

Hollywood has been sucking on the remake teat since the very beginning. I think there is lots of originality in Hollywood however, it does not exist at the levels where what is produced is decided.

Not sure I'd call the ST movie a remake, since the plot is brand new.  Reinvisioning maybe.  Either way, I liked it and am looking forward to the sequels.  They can eventually go to TV with this new history.

I have high hopes for the Conan movie. Hell the Picts actually look like Picts for once. But it's a hard movie to make, while wanting to stay true to the source, and eliminating the vast racial undertones that permeated Texas at the time it was written.

actually Rise is more of a remake of Conquest of the Planet of the Apes.

Watching Roddy McDowell in a strong/evilish role as Caesar was pretty cool.  Been a while since I watched Conquest, though...

1/ Risk aversion. "It worked for them, it'll work for me"

2/ Cheap.  "We already own the rights".

Plot sucks movie theme blows why do another remake unless some one wants to distract the public from other thoughts. Ohhhhhhhh thats a fact with the hollywood these days.  A though here not hate.
