Found this site:

It seems to have fairly responsible interpretation of some TOS favorites into the JJVerse.

Some nice ships on there.

I'm not one for the obligatory nature of the Saladin and Federation bashes, but I like the kelvin-fleet certainly.
Saladin and Federation are ships that almost have to exist, but they really should be low-key. If I were to make a Star Trek series I would have them show up once or twice, but that's it. More interesting designs should have a bigger role.
-
to each there own I guess. To my eye, the Kelvins are ugly ships that should have been flushed when thought of.
-
Yeah, they are ugly, but I think that is to soften the emotional intensity in the opening scene of the movie. Just imagine how heart wrenching it would be if both Kirk's father died AND a beautiful ship was destroyed . . . they might have had to bump the content rating up.

The thing that killed things for me in the opening? Walking into the beer freezer on the way to the shuttlebay. I can suspend belief as well as the next guy, but all the scenery inside the starships was wrong. By the time that they'd shown off their factory look inside the ship until the shuttle took off, they'd totally broken context for the movie for me. So when Kirk's dad died, all I felt was a resounding "meh".
Zachary Quintos as Spock was fine, but I could never get over the rest of it. Better to have filmed their engineering scenes at a retired Navy ship with a nuclear reactor.. it'd look a lot more believable that what they wound up with..

I have worked at both a refinery and on marine vessels. The equipment and look of the environment is not that much different. I would say a major missing component in the scenes in the movie are bulkheads. If they drew in some bulkheads in the engine room with some overhead structural ribbing to make it feel tighter, I think that would have made a big difference. The scale of the interiors of the engine rooms does not feal right with the size of the vessels. I like the idea though, that the saucer is more hotel-like, and the secondary hull (engineering hull) is very industrial. This is realistic, I think.

I despised that engineering set. The bridge set looked like the Apple Store at the local mall. I'll leave it at that.

Ohhh come on you cant get better CGI than a local milk plant or beer maker , Those cross members and other gadgets really made it real trek feel right. I also thought alot did not pass for the idea of even the basic Trek thoughts but in all Its better than BnB trek later years . Its all fun i guess no fun intended :crazy2:. Zachary Quintos did make a awesome alt universe spock though i would love to see him more as evil spock useing his charicter from heros . :flame: That would make for a good Trek film!

Did you guys see the concept art of what they wanted to do for engineering? They had to work with what they had.
Personally I don't mind the nitty-gritty in this Pre-TOS era because it makes the 1960s TOS still seem advanced by comparison.

ALL good except for the design of the enterprise. Way to much multi era tech mixed there :-X

Have you walked through a military ship (or base facilities), you have multi-era tech everywhere.
The intell area I worked in had tech from modern computers back to Korea era teletypes (and I like the Korea stuff better then the computers).

I love seeing a rotary sound-powered telephone next to a wi-fi router and a touch screen.

Yes, but you don't see that stuff on a brand new ship. Older ships that have been around a few times, they stick with what they had because it works better with the design of the ship than the latest greatest. You won't see any mixed tech like that on the USS Ronald Reagan. But you would see it on the USS Enterprise. And in twenty years, the Reagan will have mixed tech, while a brand new Carrier won't. The Multi-era tech accumulation is simply a byproduct of what works at the time, and of course the fact that the Government couldn't afford to replace every telephone each time a newer model came out, it'd be a waste of tax-payer money. They'll replace it when it breaks, and not before.

There is no glowing white plasma screens or any tech from the 60a i see in the JJ movie,In tmp or tng. The tech is more advanced than ANY other Trek movie or tv series to date. I am a fan of the JJtrek cause its new not cause it contains any real trek theme. Hell i am a hater of voyager and most of DS9 though the war did help . TMP is me any other era blows :crazy2: Ps the BORG suck talk about a cheesy race! Just had to throw that out for no reason.

I am not saying that they had 60s tech in JJ trek. I was pointing out that even on a modern military base and ships you have older tech as it is stable and has proven itself. Thus in a future tech ship, it would make since that they would have some tech that also seem old in comparison.
TOS is also my favorite, but it was designed back when tech was very basic and they wanted to make sure people could tell what it was, thus a computer had flashing lights and switch, and buttons. But we now know about touch screens and can image holographic input systems so they should use that in a new design.
will also agree with the Borg, bleh.

Not a bad idea. Would be something to look into when the win7 fix is released and some work has been finished.
