I know there are a ton of them out there, and tons more will be made, but should I attempt to make my own TOS Connie? Thoughts?
-
Yes
-
Yes . If no other reason do it to let yourself know you can.

Be REALLY different. Make a non-Federation ship.
My two cents...

My skills aren't that good yet.

Bull. I really think you are underestimating your skills. If you can make a TOS Connie you can make a TOS Romulan BOP for example. The TOS RBOP have saucer body and round warps are there. The basic shapes are similar and the TOS Bop has the virtues of not needing an engineering hull and not having been made as often as the Connies.
-
You know doing the BOP would be a good warm up for the TOS Coni as the BOP is a much simpler hull form :D
-
Alright since you asked,
There is a advantage to the BOP Rommie, if you wish to learn how to map a ship for textures it is a much simpler design to work with
-
Curves of a TOS Romulan BOP hull I don't know how to make. I've looked at various models to see how they're made, but I don't know how to make my own. As I said, my skills aren't that good yet.
-
Besides, the question I asked was should I build my own TOS Connie, not should I start making non Fed ships.
-
For an SFC modeller, making a Connie is a rite of passage, like a Jedi building his own light saber. You have to do at least one, once.
-
When in doubt: leap for the attempt.

Dude I have the Resurection mesh. I can say with authority that you are selling you skills short. i fon't think their is a trek ship out there you couldn't do if you get out of your own way and beleive in your self. The evidence is incontrovertable in my proffetional oppinion 8)

If thats what you want to do next go for it.
-
If that's what you want to do, then go for it. Personally, I need modelling to fun and therefore go for what I like. I suggest you do the same. Keep in mind, the more you model the better you get at it. Both of the ships mentioned in this thread had good reference materials available so either of them will provide a challenge as well as an opportunity for you to learn and master new skills. Make it fun for yourself.
-
Go for it, make your saber young Padawan. :D
Seriously, the first one I attempted was an attempt at an early warp ship, then I tried a Daedelus, a Connie is a bit trickier. My textures hide a lot of really ugly meshes of my own on my part.. I'm sure that you can do better. ;)
-
Centurus make the connie \give it your thoughts. Its Your ship . Remember there are atleast 4 versions of a Tos connie not jj. :) All just ideas The rest is up to you to think about to make.
If i can do it So can you! And you can make it better !

Thoughts of a non-modeler. In the words of a woodworker I know, "The question is the answer". The fact you are wondering if you should try and make the model, is probably the answer you you are looking for. Yes. Sure there are alot of them out there. But since you are drawn to think about it, I believe you should make it.
It was the first ship I did try and model, didn't work out but I tried.

Yes.
Build her and do her justice, such an awsome ship.
