Title: newbie to DOE
Post by: klink on March 30, 2003, 08:49:35 pm
i've been reading up about DOE over at the website, it sounded fun, decided to d/l it, and i've been trying to figure out a problem with it.

recieving bad crc in doe_tglaprtlaX<as in the variable X, have 2 or 3 of them>.scr
bad crc in doe_tglenprtlaX.scr

etc. a about 5 or 6 of them i think

is there a fix for this? i've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the patch several times, doesn't seem to fix anything. tried re-d/ling it... i presume the DOE convert files are corrupt.

any help?

I would goto your games' "assets/scripts" folder and remove any file that starts with doe_"  Bascially, delete all doe_*.scr files.  Then re-install the download which should put all the new doe_*.scr files in your "assets/scripts" folder. If that don't work then just copy all the doe_*.scr files from the zip download file  into the "assets/scripts" which is what the convert script is trying to accomplish.

on your advice, i tried this. I even d/l'd temp internet files and temp files to make sure it wasn't just a bad transfer.

there are some files that are either not there in the d/l or are corrupt.

i'll get a list of all of them rather than just post X for the different ones.

looking at them in the assets/scripts folder they are tg1enptrla and i think if i remember right th ey are tgLenptrla

so maybe its just a naming issue?

i'll look into it a bit further. i'm open to any suggestions.

here are the corrupt files in the DOE_Convert d/l's

tg1alptrla2
tg1alptrla3
tg1alptrlb
tg1enptrla1
tg1enptrla2
tg1enptrla3

looking forward to getting through this and  playing soon, i've got the 2036 patch installed. hope that doesn't make a difference.

keep reading over the webpage and the mod is looking better and better

thanks for the wishes

i did have fun, the AI is seriously tough. i like playing as gorn, i decided to play as Romulan though. i thought they'd be the least popular. was i ever wrong. could i recreate as gorn or fed?

missions i kept getting killed during:
any

(mainly tried AlliedPatrolA and AlliedPatrolB)

did i read something about some AI doubleshot bug? it did seem like the Gorn Frigates had a few too many plasma torps, maybe i encountered this problem last night.

is there a newbies guide to commandering i should take a look at? or just some general newbie resources? seems like i'm too slow when reacting to the AI and they are able to prep weapons faster than I am. its fun. tough, but fun, certainly better than any of the default campaigns i've played through.

The key to the Plasma vs Plasma AI battle is to never slowdown and always make oblique passes firing your plasma and turning off at just under 10K unless you are sure that the AI has unloaded it's plasma. As to the doubled weapon bug at least the AI always fires both torps at once, so if you out run one you out run both. If fighting feds with photons, speed is less important than keeping a good ecm shift.

and i thought they just wanted to play chicken!

heheheh thanks. i tried tractoring and using marines.i got clobbered with mines for all my trouble.

i'll try sticking out at the 10 klick range when engaged 1v1 against plasma

Additional note, if it seems like the missions are taking forever this way, then you are doing it right ;-)
