Okay...
True to my word, on behalf of this community, I have purchased a couple of copies of SFC2: Orion Pirates that I'm willing to gift to this community. I'll ship you the game. It will cost you nothing. All I ask in return is that you give OP's Dynaverse a chance and do what you can to make it a success.
E-mail me at dogmatix@cox.net if you would like the chance to receive one of my copies. My retail source has several addtional copies available and if the demand is high, I'll probably be willing to pick up addtional copies as my personal finances permit.
I'm no programmer. I couldn't script a mission to save my life. I've never been chosen to be a beta tester for SFC. I can do this and i'm willing to do it.

*Bows deeply*.Iit's a priviledge to be your friend.
Thouroughly enjoyed our session on Reclamation tonight. Some hairy moments and a lot of fun. First time I've really had a good runout with the LDR's CWLP. Oh, she purrs, and what a bite. Meow
Folks, the supplies are cheaper, the shipyards are filling up. If you have a spare hour or so, pop on and see for yourself if you think it's playable. Go DV boosting, It definitley works with neutral cartel layer. We even had 2 consecutive successful neutral co-op missions with the Courier Intercept, then it decided it had had enough of that and went back to no effect. that is so weird.
-
I have OP and use it to play Direct tcp/ip games regularly,
using the OP Plus Refit shiplist. Mucho fun!
I've played a number of campaigns that worked pretty well on the OP D2
in the past. EAW drew me back when the SQL db was enabled.
My big wish for the OP D2 is an SQL db. This might help us address
some of the other issues indirectly through mission scripting and
database management.
There a number of very interesting and groundbreaking
campaigns coming up in EAW, but I'll login to the OP D2
when I get a chance, promise!
-
I will check my local stores for copies as well. Will let you know tomorrow what I find.
If I don't post tomorrow, someone please remind me about this...
-
Hail and well met Dogmatix!
-
I saw 1 last copy at an EB here in Ottawa.. if someone wants to know coordinates let me know..
.. I can't afford anything right now, so can't get it for anyone.

Even though this game is not in print, could CD-Keys still be purchased from Taldren for say $5?
If this were the case, all we'd need is a CD writter and some people with too much time on their hands . . .
EAW rocks. OP rocks and hopefully it wil have a kick-ass D2 future.

If there isn't someone more able to contribute to the OP D2 who wants a copy, I'd be happy to add it to my discs. But, if a designer/programmer/admin type wants it, please let them have first dibs. And, unlike Klingons, I'll pay for my copy. You don't have a problem with a third party out of state workcheck, do ya?
Gwarlock
-
Look, you can still buy them from Interplay for $5 + $5 for shipping. Hard to beat $10, man I spend that much on lunch some days.

Not so easy if you live in Australia though...

No worries, Gwarlock...just e-mail me your addy and I'll send you one of my copies.
Just to clarify my original post in this thread...I consider giving OP a chance and playing on OP servers helping the cause. No special preference is given to programmers and potential server admins. I just want to see if I can help get people to play the game. It really does have just about everything EAW has, and more.

Depends on how bad you want it.
Whisper...maybe you can con Dog into sending you one......

Cheap copies are indeed available. What i'm trying to do here is donate...subsidize the growth of the OP community. Make it as easy as possible for those who want a chance at the game or are curious about it to get their hands on a copy. $5+$5 isn't bad. Free is better. I can't promise to buy a copy for everyone who want's one, but I'll do my best.
Tracey and Gwarlock...send me your mailing addresses and I'll get my two copies in the mail to you ASAP.
-
Thanks Dog, much appreciated...
-
Or hell -- send it electronically and give them the CD keys so they don't have to wait for the mail. Then you can send them at your leisure or keep the discs as coasters.
-
Classy move, Doggy.
I think you have a future in marketing!
-
I found 3 copies today. Two are spoken for.
Please email me for the last one. Email me @ c-m-dawson@nc.rr.com
First come first serve.
I was told they will reorder them and will have them restocked in 7-10 days.
I should be able to afford to get more by then.

I had considered that and would be happy to do it. I just wasn't aware of how readily people could get their hands on the program itself. I left all forms of software pirating behind about 10 years ago. Before that, sad to say, I was deep in it...
I'll be more than happy to provide the CD keys beforehand to anyone who wishes. Again...just drop me an e-mail and I shall do my utmost to hook you up...

Whaaa?
Wow, where was this sentiment back when we (Klings) were being slaughtered back in Rooks I and II.
Well now, I just may have to reinstall.

Heh, its nice to be right. ;-)
Love,

I was there, eh? heheh....in fact, I helped lead the resurgence to respectability for the Empire on RT2...brought my CW Klingon pals over for the last week and a half or so of the shingdig. We invaded Fed space, like all good Klingons should.

-
Truly a classy move!
-
*BUMP*
Unless I've somehow missed them, I'm still waiting for e-mails from Tracey and Gwarlock with their mailing addresses.
-
Will get that email off to you soon, Dob, sorry, it slipped my mind...
-
The Klingons and the Romulans banded together to get our Revenge on Rooks Tavern 3 The Organian Wars. Man did we Kick Ass!
-
Sent. Let me know if ya didn't get it.
Gwarlock
-
If any others need copies, I have a few laying around, shoot me an email with your addy.
-
Got it, Gwarlock. As soon as Tracey give me her address, I'm off to the post office.
I would like to send them both together since a trip to my local post office means a 30-45 minute wait in line.
-
Email is sent, Dog....
-
..and received.
Wanted to post an update (which will also serve as a *BUMP.")
I have yours and Gwarlock's copies of OP packed up. I shall be thoroughly unable to get to the post office today. I'm shooting for first thing in the morning. I'm going to send yours air mail, Tracey. I'm hopeful you get it in a reasonable amount of time. I've ordered a few things from Australia (CDs from Tom Ellard, the creative force also known as the band "Severed Heads") that have gotten here fairly quickly.
-
You listen to Severed Heads?? I never would have thought...
Thanks Dog, much appreciated. Hooch tried sending me something a few months ago, and it never arrived, and the US mail was unable to locate it (as far as I know). To be on the safeside, does it cost anything extra to have the post registered or certified? Just in case...
By the way, I like Severed Heads, they came out with a song a few years back, it was pretty creepy and had a narrative through the middle of it about, you guessed it, severed heads!!
-
Like to listen to something creepy? Try D.O.A. from Bloodrock.
-
You're talking about Dead Eyes Opened..which was actually first released in the mid-to-late 80's, though he made a few remixes during the 90's. I have pretty much the entire cataogue of Severed Heads material. Doggy likes! I discovered them in 1986. Tom Ellard has a side-project called Cocklacoma which is also very cool.
I'll do what I can to see the parcel is trackable. That was my intention.

OK, Bearslayer, I'll bite. I PMed you my info.
Next time you are in Atlanta, GA, lunch is on me.
We won't goto to any wimpy DC-like bar either.
-
Somebody should give these guys an award or something, seriously...
Not many people would volunteer their own time and money to help bring more people into a game, although I'm not sure what anyone could give them to sufficiently honor contributions such as these. Taldren gave out awards for technical support, maybe an award for community contributions should be next.

I don't know Karnak.... I had quite a good time at 'The Mad Hatter' in Georgetown on several occasions.
But you got a deal....
Currently, all copies of OP that I own are spoken for. They have not been replaced yet at the local shops, but I am just waiting on them, then I will have 3-5 more copies available.
I will post when I have more.
-
I have access to several more copies of OP. All anyone has to do, no matter who you are, is e-mail or PM me and I shall do my best to fulfill your request.

Further update for Gwarlock and Tracey.
Tracey:
Mailed your pacel via U.S.P.S. Air Mail. Any other way and they were going to make me repackage it. Sadly, I didn't have time for that, so we'll just cross our fingers and hope it gets to ya. I'm thinking maybe 10 days?
Gwarlock:
I took yours out of the retail box and just mailed the CD and the instruction booklet in a large padded envelope since I didn't have a suitable box for shipping. I sent it via First Class mail, so I suspect you'll see it towards the end of next week.
Both copies of OP are in the mail as of now.
-
Thanks a bunch Dog... will let you know if it arrives, and/or if in 10 days it hasn't turned up.

Golly gee willickers and jumping jehosefats, guess what I found for $10 at Software, Etc. nestled beside a couple $20 SFC2:EAW boxes with nary a SFC3 title box to be found. So, while my wife was at the cooleth Women's clothing stores with lotsa tight dresses and she was piontedly looking at the choice items directly opposite from the ones I soso "graciously" recommended, I grabbed an SFC2:OP copy. I guess I'll be bagging my lunch at work this week to compensate for financial drag in the household balance sheet caused by this transaction. However, I'll take Dogmatix's word on it like Obelix and Asterix would and devour the OP Magic Potion to the dismay of Romans (Romulans) everywhere.
Thanks for the offer Bearslayer, in any case. I appreciated it.

A great song! I have all of their albums. I love DOA and Dier Not a Lover.
-
N/P Karnak,
Looks like I got one copy still available then.
-
Just an update. I have 2 copies ready for any who need it.
-
S'Faret, I'm gonna try and get your copy in the mail tomorrow before I head off to my surgical consult. I just got swamped this past weekend.
My source has many, many copies of OP available. The offer is still good folks. A brand-spanking-new copy of OP at no cost to you for anyone who wants one for as long as I can afford to do this. I don't care who you are. I only care that you give OP D2 a chance and do what you can to help make it a success. You can do that by playing it.
-
I have but everytime I log on to OP no one is there, so where are all the OP players?
-
Just wondering but can you play SFC-OP without the cd in the cd-rom like EAW?
The reason why I ask is because my cd-rom died just recently
so I can only play games that don't require the cd.
-

Aye, you can play without the CD
-
Thx for the quick reply Bearslayer.
Since that is the case I would be interested in a copy myself.
I could install on another machine and then move the whole game
across my lan to my machine.

Send me an email with your address. c-m-dawson@nc.rr.com

I think most of the existing owners are waiting for a server to play on. However, the idea is to increase OP D2 playership...hence my attempts at helping to subsidize the growth of its available playerbase.
-
OK I fired an e-mail off. Allow me to offer my profuse thanks once again.
-
got it and replied, I will try to send it out in the next few days, but I can't promise that.
-
Cool that you were able to find a copy, Karnak! Some places (like here) have them in abundance...and other places have them in scarce supply. My source was down to about five copies. When I went back there this past Friday night, they were back up to about 25 copies. Wacky...
I imagine they are happy I'm buying them up!
BTW, S'Faret...I have your copy packaged (sans the retail box) and I hope to get to the post office today to get it into the mail. I have to go see a surgeon today and I'm not sure how long that's going to take. Latest time it gets into the mail it tomorrow. Either way, I'll send it priority so you get it by the end of this week.
-
Update for S'Faret..you copy is in the mail via U.S.P.S. "Prioriity Mail." I think this means you'll get it by Thursday. Enjoy!
-
I gotta admit that I prefer playing on OP. Always have. The latest patch is an excellent upgrade that has made a difference. Really enjoyed The Triangle servers especially the first one.
Dogmatix's efforts here are truly worth it for the community. Kudos.
-
Tnaks for saying so, Standarte. It has been my pleasure.
S'faret? Did you get your copy? You should have received it yesterday or perhaps today, at the latest.
-
Now all we need is for those new OP owners to come out and play on D2.

There is a new mini-campaign comming soon so here's your chance to really see what the x-tech is all about.

Never played X-ships in a dyna before. Is it like SFC3 where ya run around at top speed until yer ready to die?
I tried a I-CCX that had a 60 point power curve in a skirmish. That was cool.
-
Dogmatix,
Thanks the package came today. Gonna put it on later tonight and get the patches and new ship list. Anything else I should get for it?

If all you do in SFC3 is run around at top speed, yer gonna die. Don't matter if you're ready or not.
As for the X-ships in OP, yes they are pretty much exactly like that. Just go speed 31 and beat the snot out of each other. The first one to pop loses.
-
Actually, Karnak...X-ship on X-ship is often quick and quite brutal. I think it's a blast. I wouldn't wish to make a quality statement on the comparison of X-ship combat vs. SFC3 combat. There are some distinct similarities, but cruising around at high speed all the time in either one really isn't a great tactic. Sure, you can do it....but neither one guarantees a win.
I think those that prefer the SFC2 milleu will prefer x-ship combat over SFC3, and visa versa. I think FireSoul's addition of SFB-style x-ships will breath new life into x-ships on the Dyna, though they are, as yet, untested to my knowledge. I think SFCx's "Tech Wars" server will increase the data we have on that account.

That's about it, mah brutha. You'll be hapy to know that your EAW models work just fine in OP...so all ya have to do is replace the models in question with your EAW models, if you're using any of the many beautiful ships created by the modeler community.
-
Make sure you get NW's latest Evil Dave OP missions, too. Welcome to OP.
-
Thanks guys, will fire it up this weekend, spring cleaning right now. By the way do tha laternate campaigns for Evil Dave missions work in OP as well? As for the models the ones I use ar the Thu11 Gorn, they are simply the best thing I have ever seen.
As for the modified ship list. Has it been setup like the SG list for extra models to properly distinguish class?

Can anyone post on one thread the links for everything a person would need to get to play OP?
S'faret

I got that copy today Bearslayer, thanks again. I'm currently installing it and I think I'll try the singleplayer campaign to see what the differences are before hopping on an OP dyna.

I think you can get it all at SFCX
http://www.sfcx.org
that'd be the 2.5.3.8 patch
OP+ 2.1c shiplist
and ED OPMissions pack
