Hello all.
Just wanted to let all D2 server admins know that you are all welcome to use the SFCx IRC server for your D2 campaigns / servers.
You will need to put in the following in chat.gf:
[IRCServers\Address]
0="irc.sfcx.org"
[IRCServers]
Port=6999
Besure and change the Port value in your chat.gf or you will not connect. The server is not monitoring the standard 6667 port.
Also a few things to note:
1) the server is a bit slow at connection (this is a known issue that we are working on) so you might wnat to increase the delay before first turn
2) this server is dedicated but is on a frac-T1 so heavy use could cause slowdowns
3) max channels for any "client" is 20 so all the channels for OP should now be available (not tested)
4) all from this community are welcome to use the IRC service both for servers or just for general chat but please keep it clean
5) further changes and tweaking may cause brief outages, we will try to keep them as breif as possible
6) problems connecting (other than case #1 and 2 above) contact me at cptcastrin@pegicorn.com
That's it. Hope this helps any admins that need a chat server.

Thanks Castrin. I was hoping you were going to do something like that. Now I don't have to worry about my own home-based machine being abused.

And who ever said that playing SFC2 was just a game... the tactical skills, strategic thinking and bloodlust to see your enemies vanquished in a cloud of plasma can be applied to real life...
You get 'em, Raj... we're glad your on our side...

If you get the needed evidence, maybe you can now have them tried as a terrorist.

Sorry to hear this rajnsaj, hope you (or the powers that be) catch the little a'holes.
So far haven't had any DoS attacks on the sfcx.org IRC but I'll keep an eye out now.
As for GameSpew I'll check that and see if I can connect now. Not that it matters much, they have made themselves all but irrelavent now. If they didn't do ID checking we'd be totally free of them ... ah well, one can dream.
-
But if we ever do get totally free of GameSpew, we'll have to have a patch or something to get GapeSpy's logo out?
And I love your email tactics...
1 email (missile) seemed ineffective sooo...
4 emails (scatterpack)... got results
Fought like a true Kzin!

Maybe you're beng a bit too serious about it.
.. I think you should just drop it.

This does not bode well at all for future

errrrrrrrmmmmm.... Perhaps it's not worth going to war over.

Just a quick FYI, SFCx has just updated the IRC server deamon and has eliminated many of the speed issues that were plauging the older version. So once again we just want all to know that the server is up and running and that it's working great for OP (and apperantly EaW) server kits. All are free to use / hangout on / connect campaigns to the server.
One other note. When setting up your chat.gf file , keep the nickname setting as short as possible and dont use a nickname that may be used. Variations on the name of the server are recommended.
Thanks go out to FireSoul for fielding my endless barrage of questions and helping me with the config.
