I recall the episode "Starship Down" when they rigged a phaer burst thru the main deflector when the Defiant was caught in a star's atmo and the various parts of the ship were cut off from each other.

Damn it, I was brought up on TNG and DS9 episodes. Do you want to know which episode it is??? Yes, than I will tell you.
It's fourth season of DS9. Episode is called "A Starship down". This picture shows how the main deflector and the deflector dish can be used as well. This Defiant had it's phaser arrays damaged due to some circumstancess ( I don't want to write here a review and spoil you this episode!!!), but the phaser generators were still online, so the idea came to use the Deflector dish as a phaser array (One young engineer figured it out
