Title: I have started texturing,but I ran into a problem.

I have tried texturing in 3D Studio Max, but I ran into a problem.  I have unwrapped UVW and pressed edit. The texture appears on the Edit UVWs window but not the object that I have chosen to edit. What am I doing wrong?

Hi,  I think that you need to apply a UVMAP modifier first to "lock in" the texture co-ordinates. Choose planar, and then the projection that you want:
ie x for side view y for top view or z for front view.
Do some tweaking to get the UV coords that you want, and then UNWRAP to fit the textures.
