Well, new forum, new topics, guess I should raise this one again.
Taldren - any chance of a small group of people being allowed access to the SFC:OP source code, under your supervision and control (IE, you control the project's overall goal and scope), with the goal of putting out another patch, or, say, an addon module you could release?
Totally unpaid volunteers contributing to what could be a marketable product? Interested?

Eh,... There isn't a whole lot of profit in releasing your source code, especially considering OP is an older title and as such won't recieve much more attention from Taldren.
From my understanding, mission scripts are one thing but actually releasing your source code is quite another. You tend to lose control over what exactly is done to it. You also have to take into consideration licensing from Paramount. What if you decide to make unauthorized changes (Like adding tholians, etc..) that might infringe upon the copy-rights of other companies/individuals?
A whole can of potential worms without any real profit potential (IE the only people interested would be individuals that already own SFC2:OP)

Besides,Interplay would never go for it...let alone Paramount.

KhoroMag has been given the code and IIRC, they are unpaid. So releasing the code, or having Khoromag continue work on SFCII projects is not beyond the realm of possibility
But I supposed that ongoing work might be contested by Paramount. After all, their ability to kill anything is quite impressive....

I will please ask to you stop saying this.....
Interplay has no rights to SFC anymore....they SOLD them to ATVI.....all of them...including the rights to expansions and add ons
Taldren owns the OP code.....Paramount owns the Intellectual property...and ATVI holds the rights.
As has been pointed out several times.
Thank you
btw... seeing what a cow ATVI had over an open beta...I sincerly doubt they would approve access to the code by any other than have allready been given it.

Freespace 2 (dev'd Volition, Published by Interplay) is now open source... So I doubt interplay has anything to do with it. Prarmount...well... shrug
Remember he is not requesting an OPEN source. He is seeking permissions to do to OP what Khoromag did for EAW and articfire is doing for OP-D3.

Eh,
Still dosen't change the fact that there isn't really any profit potential in doing this. Afterall, someone still has to be tasked to oversee the developments and ensure everything is going according to plan. One or two individuals doing some "Maintence work" and turning your source code over to another team to create features are two different things.
As a business man you have to look at this from a business perspective: Is there any profit potential? All I see is alot of time being invested by members of Taldren with no potential return on that investment.
