This is my second effort at kitbashing, she is the Wilkerson Class Destroyer. A FASA design, she is made from parts of 3 different P81 ships. It still needs texture work and a break model, but overall I think it came out rather well. For you FASA purists out there, I couldn't resist adding Torpedo bays to the ship, since the original design had something I can't make at this stage in the game yet. I think the Torp bays give it a more fearsome look anyway. I am going to do a second version using P81's D2 pack textures, assuming I get his permission of course. He has always been kind enough to give it in the past, so I see no problem there. Here are some WIP pics and soon I should have the finished product ready to go. If it looks like something might be off, it is probably due to the position I put the ship in Modviewer, I never can get that thing right. The engines have a slight tilt to them, but I will correct that this week.
On another note, if some of you veteran modellers could reccommend a texturing tutorial I would greatly appreciate it. Especially that covers Registries and Ship Names would be wonderful. Thank you for any help you can provide.

Not exactly the prettiest FASA Fed ship but definitely one more to check off the FASA to SFC list.
I'll be sure to add this ship and its d/l location to the "Where to find FASA to SFC ships" thread.
Thank you!

"NOT THE PRETTIEST??!!!" WELL, thank you very much!!!
Just kidding, actually this has always been one of my favorites from the FASA collection, although I think there are better loking designs, the Baker, the Constitutuiion, etc. I like to think of this ship as a workhorse, not very flashy, but it does it's job.
-
Oh joy! Another FASA ship finally being done justice! I have no objection to you adding photorps(photon topredoes to you newbies out there) since the Wilkerson was always woefully undergunned in many of the scenarios that I played when I had the old FASA game.
Let us know when both ships are ready!
-
Glad you like it, and I will definitely keep you posted on its release.
-
Yay! The photorps make it make sense to us non-FASA vet's. Very nice kitbash dude, once you're done with it I may have a look at it with Pata's textures.
-
Glad you like it, let me know if you have anymore models for me to host for you. You can use Pata's textures too, they are based the D2 Ship Pack that P81 did awhile back.
-
BUMP for release news!
BTW: for your next project, please consider kitbashing a Melak from a SFC3 or BC converted warbird (available at DarkMatrix's site).... Mwah ha ha!
(I tried and failed miserably LOL. Poor Romulan crew...)

Nice mesh! My only question is whether the nacelle textures are going to be fixed. The flipped registry noone notices, but the blue glow on the warp tubes should be carried over to the other side. It's a quick fix in photoshop. To fix the registry you copy the nacelle jpg and edit the registry. Then assign the flipped texture jpg to the bottom nacelle and add the new texture to the mod zip.
Okay I'm a bit of a perfectionist. I'm not much at making registries but I could at least flip them for you.
Let me know?

I'll be releasing this ship this weekend if all goes well.
Makotokat: Thanks for your offer I help, I'll contact you if I need it.

Nice to see more kitbashers churning out great models.

For me, the Wilkerson has always held the place in my heart that the Akula does in many others: it was the first decent-looking TMP-era destroyer design I'd seen. (FASA's hand-drawn secondary hulls were usually really ugly and odd-shaped.)
I have to admit in hindsight that the Akula is a better rendering of the basic concept - there's an obvious torp bay, central struts make for better structural integrity than thin wings, and how is the warp plasma supposed to get to the W's nacelles anyway? - but the W is still a sentimental fave. Thanks for kitbashing her, Rogue.

Glad you like it, I plan to release herb this weekend.

if you really look at that design, it appears they must store all the torpedoes in the warp nacelles.

You ungrateful, mean-spirited, nasty little weasel! How dare you make fun of my kitbash!! If someone ever does finish the Coeur De Lion, I look forward to blowing it up with a squadron of Wilkersons.

Sorry I haven't been posting updates on this ships and the Solaris as well, my hard drive crapped out on me and I had to get the money together to get a new one. Fortunately I am a person who backs up his work religiously, I still have the Wilkerson intact and the Solaris. I am still rebuilding everything on my computer at the moment, then I can start work on both ships again, I did lose some of the updating I did, now I have to redo that as well. The very latest I'll have this ship ready is next weekend, although I am hoping for before that. Thanks for the interest, and patience it will be rewarded soon.
