Title: Dynaverse.Net needs your help
Post by: FA Frey XC on February 10, 2005, 10:08:33 pm
Greetings.

The Dynaverse Gaming Association, the non profit organization that runs, governs, and is responsible for providing the funding for D.Net, is asking for donations to continue to support Dynaverse.Net and the DGA in our endeavors. Let me make this clear NOW - this isn't REQUIRED. Dynaverse.Net will continue to operate and run without any donations - but we won't be able to grow.

You can simply donate to the Dynaverse.Net improvement fund, or you can donate to the DGA and become a member. You can also donate to the DGA and become a member with the right to VOTE at DGA meetings on items presented to the Board of Directors. You can donate  HERE  (http://www.dynaverse.net/v2/dga_tsunami_relief_fund.php)  - this is also the location where you can donate to the Dynaverse.Net Tsunami Relief Fund.

As you all know, Dynaverse.Net runs entirely on volunteers. Ultimately, the DGA (Dynaverse Gaming Association) runs and administers Dynaverse.Net, and that means everyone that's an Admin, Officer of the DGA, Moderator, MySQL engineer, Webmaster, or otherwise has done this all of their own accord, and on their own time. There's a lot of people who work very hard here to maintain and make this a comfortable and continual place for our community. We're running over 4 million hits a month, with an average of 10 GB of traffic a day. As we don't have to pay for the bandwidth, we're blessed there.

I shoulder the bills on the equipment entirely. Currently we've got two servers that'll function as a core comms servers. These machines are perfect for that role, and we've gotten everything placed right where it needs to be. What we need now is to upgrade, or to get a new server. Recent tests conducted by DieHard, Dizzy, and Bonk have shown the need for a good, current machine to run campaigns on. As well, we've got to upgrade some core components of the network to ensure that the bandwidth we utilize is utlized as well as possible.

I've been running websites for the communtiy for almost 10 years. XenoCorp has been a very active Fleet in our community, and when I learned of Taldren's demise I made it my personal crusade to make sure we had a place where we could all transition to. We've been running the Directory servers now for over a year, and we've hosted numerous EAW, OP AND SFC3 campaign servers for the community and never asked for a dime - but that's because we never had to before. Please help us if you can.

Regarding the membership to the DGA -

A $10 donation will qualify you for a 1 year membership in which you will be entitled to list that you are a member in your signature, get a monthly newsletter, and you will be notified of meetings and will be able to attend.

A $20 donation will qualify you for a 1 year voting membership in the DGA. The Board of Directors will put forth votes regarding official DGA business, and you will be able to help determine the outcome.

Please notate in the "Enter your custom message" section if you are donating to become a member of the DGA. You can view the documents of the DGA, including our Declaration of Incorporation and non profit status at the Dynaverse.Net ftp site. Anonymous access is, of course, allowed. We're moving stuff up to public access as we receive it, and as we can get it up there.

ftp://ftp.dynaverse.net/DGA/

We thank you all for the opportunity to serve you, and we look forward to many more years of fun !

Thank you - it's because of YOU we all do what we do!

Regards,

As you can probably tell by my lack of any avatar or other material, I do not do a whole lot of SFC gaming these days, but I have been around since SFC1 came out. I have lived on the fringes while working on an IT degree and am finishing up, and also have begun to learn the wonders of Lightwave 8 3D use. I have appreciated all the efforts I have seen over the years by those who are dedicated to the SFC worlds, and was just mulling through some web sites when I saw your post. I am glad to send you $20.00 to help in your efforts.  I hope to actually be able to spend some time with SFC3 again, soon, but wanted to let all of you know there is a group of people who support your efforts, even if not directly involved these days. Keep up the good work Admiral.

Okay lets talk here . . .

I expect something for my money.   As for what has been offered.  UNACCEPTABLE!!

I demand . . .

1)  LIFETIME Tech support help with my computer.   Frey just give me your phone number via PM.

2)  LIFETIME Tech support help for everything else electric that I may even touch.   (That includes various toys of the spicy nature)

3)  LIFETIME free pass to be a flaming arse on these forums.

Thank you.

And since I already know that these demands are reasonable . . . I'm mailing a $50.00 check to you ASAP.

Hey everyone! Been awhile since I've been here. I've been away wrapping up a novel I have wrote.  ;D

I was wondering if I can auction off one of 3 original oil paintings (16" x 20" Thu11 ISC or Hydran) I did for a 'how-to' oil paint starships book I made with the proceeds going to Dynaverse.net. I can mail the painting to Frey and he can handle it if he'd like. I don't have paypal and have never auctioned before. We'll figure something out.

I also offer the proceeds of any sales of the starship book itself to Dynaverse.net (havn't sold any yet). I believe there's a $4 markup for each book (I'll double check), so each copy sold will yield $4 that I'd be happy to send to ya (monthly or something, if over $20). I'll update the book description with a note about the proceeds going to Dynaverse.net.

A free pdf preview of the entire book (Merged Centuries Starship Edition) can be seen at http://www.lulu.com/mergedcenturies and the printed full color book can be ordered there. It came out quite nice.

As I'm wrapping up on my novel, I can get back to flying. Of all the games I've bought, only SFC-OP has stayed on my HD with continual enjoyment. I'd be happy to help out any way I can.  :D

Jim (Reptor) Hurst
http://embark.to/paint

Edited: Frey, yeah it's a $4 markup for the printed version. An alternative can be for you to open your own storefront and place the book yourself. All you'll need is the pdf and the front and back cover, then you'll have direct access to the sales. Let me know.

G'

Look for an announcement soon regarding being able to get a legitamite copy of OP with a unique key from right here @ D.Net

 :o

Toasty, we're working on that - unfortunately with the newest forums update we've encountered some problems with child forum creation, and are waiting on SMF to get back to us on a quick fix.

I will be getting the mailing list, contact lists and the like together. As a DGA Voting member, you'll all have the option to either have your own DGA email address, or just be included in the distribution lists for the DGA. Except to see some test emails coming out sometime this weekend.

Pay pal is used for most E-bay transactions...they are legit...

Another safe option would be a money order ;)
