The preliminary awards are in- more to be added of course and maybe some changes...
Overall MVP -> Kougar ,hands down
Alliance MVP-> Probably Firesoul, we'll see after I kill him today though
Coalition MVP- Well Kougar (until I kill a bunch of people today anyway)
Most Sportsmanlike -> Paladin, Hands down
The "Guy Who I read about most in the coalition forums" Award- Deadman
I don't know how much prestige or PVP you got this time buddy, but every frickin morning I seemed to read
about you attacking, flipping hexes and encircling our planets near-singlehandedly overnight
If anything you've got a great PR department.
"Most Boring to Fight Against? -> Gee, could it be DH? Sorry big guy, dropping drones over your shoulder in that beast
while understandable, gets you this puppy
"Biggest Upset" Had gone to Kougar, when he managed to chase off a BCFf & a CB and kill another BCFf in one mission with a DNHT
Greens shredding of his own CVA to set up the kill the B11V has put him into contention though.
(and again Kudos to all parties in the fight for sticking it out)
"Biggest Self Preservation of Ship" Definitely a tie for the CB and BCFf that fled Kougars DNHT, as well as Kromas redeployment away from a
CAY was it?
"Perseverence in the Face of The Obvious from an etablished player" Goes to Bearslayer.
Im sure there's lots who can qualify for this one, but Bea'rs adamant refusal to accept that a CLCf could not kill
a BCV earns him this award.

LOL....Someone tell Hex the loser's don't get to rewrite history.
-
Where are the really cool awards anyhow like:
Funniest loss of ship by an intoxicated player?
Most kills of wingman?
Most confused by the pages of rules?
Least Cheddary?
Biggest tantrum by a player who later realises he was the one wrong?
and most importantly, best Hexx remark?
;D

How 'bout a reward fer the battle that caused the most laughs on TS ;D

LeRoy, we are trying to forget the time Kouger beat you and 2 other pilots.

Why? I thought that was hilarious!
-
Anyone know what the longest time between first and second PvP kills is? Because I seem to be working on getting an award for that. Still don't have my second.
-
So? My personal record is 0-3. Hell, I even went LOOKING for the pilot that I bordered on, because I wanted to get repaired so DAX and I could meet face up with no excuses. No excuse. He kicked my buttocks.
-
Heard about that one, 'Slayer. If you're going to try to starcastle, you need to learn how to do it right. Otherwise, speed is life.

How about an award for:
Longest battle to end with a ship running away?
Piloting skills almost equal to a rock, only the rock won?
Most tractors of your own wingman?
Most accidental WW that actually ended up saving your ship?
-

Sounds good, I just don't know what a StarCastle is! ;D
-
By the book, starcastling means operating at speed 10 to 14 while reinforcing your shields etc to withstand your opponents' attack and then opportunistically snipe at him. You can go slower than that but you need to go fast enough to keep your nose pointed at your opponent. while this is typically considered a Fed tactic, other races can use it depending on the ship selected.
-
Piloting skills almost equal to a rock, only the rock won?
THAT one would be good. Anybody know who the leading candidates are?
-
Well, who was that guy that flew into a planet? Seems he should be the front runner. Of course, I've heard J'inn has a long, proud history of ordering ramming speed every time he sees a rock...
-
F9th Daihak...not sure if that's the correct spelling...was in planet assault with him and 762, he hit the planet about 1 min into the mission...

Well, I helped to introduce Nail to a sexy little Asteriod.
-
As far as flying into a planet, I admit, that was me. Shoulda been using F1 cam instead of F3. Basically, this can be attributed to loss of situational awareness, a crucial aspect of combat.
That said, why the hell didn't they include a proximity alarm on these ships? Any starship I designed would have one. The closest they get is an Alert marker on something on or off screen, but there wasn't one there for the planet. Oh well. This never happened to me before, and it will never happen again. Not unless I'm tractored into it. And I'll avoid that assiduously.

Hmm, maybe we have a new contender then, I heard WS did that to him also... :P
-
Uhm, Josh. There is a proximity alarm.
You do NOT want to turn it on!

Yeah, it goes off when you come within 15 of almost everything...in asteriod hexes it'll make you crazy! :P

F1 is the best way to play the game. F3 is for "purty pictures", and that is about it.
The game does show objects beyond your view (w/in 15 iirc) if you are using the F11 HUD.
-
I assume that it's set on or off in an INI file?
Secondly, is there any way to alter the distance on the prox alarm, such as set it to 5 instead of 15?
-
Not that anyone's ever found
And trust us, it works, but it WILL drive you insane :P
And I fly F3 for all my missions, (ooh my secret is out now)
Just hit F11 and you'll be able to watch distance and speed of everything that moves.
-
I think I tried that and got tired of seeing the speed of everything. Or was that F12?
-

No. F12 would be the aforementioned "purty picture" comment.
-
Reall Josh it's just a matetr of taste.
I *think* most pilots fly in F1, I can't stand it so I use the "purty picture" view
It can be a *slight* disadvatage when you have stuff enaging you from multiple angles (fighters' PF's drones etc)
So I just use the F11 to keep track of anything that gets close to me and that's flying faster than I am.

I use F1 for plasma vs plasma, but for simply wacking feds, klingons and especially lyrans F3 is fine.
-
I don't mind a top down view(I play a game called Escape Velocity: Nova where that's the only perspective), but if I do that, I think I'm going to have to stop doing the target lock thing and control the zoom myself. I'll try both on another server or in some single player to see which is more appealing to me. Thanks for the tips.
-
F3 is purty pic chasecam view. F12 is Screen Capture hotkey (formerly anti-SW lag generator).
-
Actually the Proximity Alarm doesn't register planets, only 'roids. And yes it is the most annoying sound ever.
-
Doesn't the sound change depending on race being flown?
-
Doesn't the sound change depending on race being flown?
Yes it does -
Federation = "Harcourt Fenton Mudd you no good lazy good for nothing" etc, etc.... (endless loop)
Klingon = "TRIBBLE TO PORT! TRIBBLE TO PORT!" (endless loop)
Gorn = "SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAMMITY SPAM!!" (endless loop)
Romulan = "You're a third rate power and Vulcans are smarter than you. Oh BTW, look out for that rock" (endless loop)
Lyran = ESG noise (endless loop) <snicker>
Mirak = "MMMMRRRROOOOWWWWW!!! Phffft phffffft!" (endless loop)
Hydran = "You've got three eyes and you can't see that rock?!!" (endless loop)
ISC = "Prepare to be rockified!" (endless loop)

In your sfc.ini file.....
[Sound]
CollisionAlert=1
gives you a proximity alert to asteroids and planets.

Ooohhh! I wasted soooooo much time with that game back in the mid-nineties. (In my MacIntosh days.) It was also the first game to get me interested in modding, and I made new ships, scenarios, and a huge campaign for it. I probably would have gotten out of grad school a semester sooner if not for Escape Velocity. ;)
Good memories.

heh...prox alert gets old real fast though...better to simply make a habit of switching views on a regular basis, and use the mini map ,and watch your out of view tags......
Also...a quick hit on the F4 view can often tell you both what's around behind you and what your enemy might be up to...
