Title: ARROW CLASS RUNABOUT
Post by: AsYlUm on January 22, 2008, 10:43:30 am
So firstly lets get this out of the way....

ARROW CLASS RUNABOUT
=====================

* Multi-Purpose Vehicle for Starbases and Planetary Installations
* Captain's Yacht design for Star Trek: Endeavour - http://undercity.co.nz/st-endeavour/

=====================

Credit Information:
--------------------
Original Design by: Malcolm Lu (Galen) and Andrew Gillespie (Kaden)
Mesh by: Mark Azevedo (Maz1701)
Copyright 2006 The Endeavour Staff

=====================

Technical Information:
-----------------------

* Created with 3DS Max 7
* Polygon count: 299,786
* Lighting: Using the default scanline render, I have set up a "light dome" around the mesh to illuminate it. Be aware that these lights have been set to ray trace shadows, which will increase the render time on slower machines. If you wish to speed up the rendering, change this to the standard shadow map setting.
* There is only one texture map used with this mesh, Impulse_Gradiant.jpg, for the impulse engine glow effect. All other textures are built within the Max file itself.

=====================

All images created with this mesh MUST have proper credit information applied. Please follow through on this, as it keeps us emotionally volatile artists happy, and when we're happy we produce more meshes! :-)

Credits should be applied as follows...

Editing or altering this mesh is not allowed. Please do not do it! That includes kitbashing the mesh with bits and pieces of other meshes...that's just nasty.

The only exception to this is the hull's NCC number and name. These may be deleted and replaced with new numbers and names to suit your purposes.

Conversion to other formats, such as Lightwave or .obj, is allowed but please contact me first at maz1701@yahoo.com. There may already be a conversion out there that I'll know about, which will save you a lot of time.

Enjoy the mesh, and use it well. We look forward to seeing many images using this beauty of a ship. And let me know if you do use it, as I would love to see what can be done with her.

Thanks!
Mark Azevedo,
AKA Maz1701

Ok thats the original readme for the original ship. as it says it was 299,786 polys which is a tad high for any gaming use..   Looking at the mesh i though it would be possible to create a version for gaming use with very high detail meshed at around 10,000k.. so shaving off a mere 290,000k polys might speed up your games a little lol..

anyhoot, awsome model, the design is sweet and i know it has been tried a few times before.. the version i have built though is nearly 100% perfect to the original, the mesh still needs some tyding up here and their but its about 80% complete, i'll show ya some pics, but work on this model is on hold until i have finished up the gagarin.

Very tight work.

(A shame it's TNG+, but still, very tight work ... lol!)

GREAT job!

Lol... thanks mudd...

here is the mesh, it was built poly by poly, no booleans or anything like that... 6 weeks worth so far to keep her nice and clean..  :D

I'm leaning over a drool bucket as I type :o. I think this is the third attempt at the arrow - hopefully the third time is the charm to get her into SFC. Thanks for sharing AsYlUm!

This one is such a beauty, if I could only afford a 3D printer - I'd print it out in parts big enough to glue together and then live in it! Next best thing is making her part of my SFC Fed Fleet and kicking butt and taking names in the virtual world. Awesome, AWESOME work.

Lol... thanks

i saw the previous two efforts.. both nice but not accurate...

again.. this will be released, but i gotta finish the garin first and just wanted ur input on my side project whilst doing so.

I know - she's a side project and the new Connie's not quite done yet...  :) I just couldn't let the Arrow fall off the front page of topics.

If you need a volunteer to help convert her to SFC - I'm in!
Title: Re: ARROW CLASS RUNABOUT
Post by: Shadowfleet on February 12, 2008, 04:17:18 pm
::) Um AsYlum... I hate to bother you. Especially since you just released the new Connie, USS Gagarin (translated as gargantuan gift to the SFC community!) and now you're tackling a new Miranda as well. WOW! However...

The Arrow was about to slip off the first page again - please don't let her "die" a third time. The other two attempts are so far back in the forums, I couldn't find them. Your working mesh looks awesome. Thanks for all the effort!

WOO HOO! Thanks for the update. AsYlum, your skills are simply amazing! I took a good look at the textures on the Gagarin last night and they are stellar, to say the least. I'm sure everyone here appreciates what you've done to energize the forums over the last few weeks.

I'm waiting like a teenager on a prom date to see the Arrow all dressed up!

I hope someone warns the Rommies -- don't come a knockin' when my Arrow's a rockin'! :)

(Typing with all the strength and encouragement I can muster under a hot desert sun -- well under a moon in the comfort of my office anyway :D )

Can't.... let... Arrow... fall off... first forum... page...

Any updates? I'm getting itchy to get my hands on this baby and rename her the Vesper as an addition to the "Shadows of the Federation" Mod. I was even thinking of incorporating her into a few of the saucer sections as Captain's yachts.

I noticed some folks over in the BC community are fired up about her as well as the Gagarin and your new Gagarinda.

replaced those awfull buzzards, left room to mabey impliment pulse phasers above right.. time will tell  ;)

Post by: Starforce2 on April 10, 2008, 01:48:52 pm
those bussards look even worse. you'd be better off with a defiant style bussard setup rather than an oddly shaped block sticking out.
Title: Re: ARROW CLASS RUNABOUT
Post by: Shadowfleet on April 10, 2008, 06:53:39 pm
WOOOO HOOOO  :D! The Arrow is back on track. I hope you're feeling better - how's the injury?

The mesh is looking super but I must  agree with Starforce. I think I'd stick with eh original Defiant like bussards. Maybe try spicing them up with high res texture instead of adding polies? Either way, I can't wait to get my hands on her.

Thanks for sharing AsYlum! Keep up the great work.

Yup.. I'd also go with something like this (as a suggestion):

Hmmm ok, Ill re think the buzzards thanks fellas... nice edit athorhaven... lol  ;)

Shadowfleet - injury is ok man, just needs physio to strengthen her up a little.. ty  :)

No worries.. ;)

But I left room on the edit to give you a space above the bussards for your pulse phaser emitters while giving a suggestion of the Defiant bussards below.

Personally though, I think setting the bussard area to look similar to the Ericson would look better.. but then you're left with where to put your pulse phasers.. (leading wing edges?)

Hey AsYlUm, how's about an Arrow bumpdate!  :)

I hope your PT is going well. I just had some minor surgery on my back and it went wellish   :-\ - PT starts Monday... I'm gonna use some of my down time to catch up on some gonkulator projects and things around the net.

I'm out the country (USA) and have limited opportunities to get internet access. I got a chance to get my "netfix" and was surprised to see the Arrow fall of the front page.

Palease don't let her die a third time AsYlUm ! I can port her if you can get her finished. If she falls for the third time - she may never be part of SFC. I'll be back at home in a month or so.

OH!  I've always loved this design!  I remember when we were discussing what a Federation Hopper would look like and the Arrow was the most logical choice.  I can picture these landing on the battlefield dropping off Marines to engage the Klingons or Dominion troops.

The squares here on the side, would those happen to be doors?  Considering how low they are, it looks like it'd be a good spot for quick in and out.

Time to blow off some dust here and finish this.  ;)

I look forward to seeing update.  Such a Beautiful ship  :)  I'm gonna think of a list of names for this baby.  Something to compliment the Sovereign Class USS Victory I created for a story I'm writing.  Hmm, yes it's going to be glorious lol.

Title: Re: ARROW CLASS RUNABOUT

So here we are again on this. i am manually adding in the aztecing to show hull plating... its slow work getting alligned and that, but i think the outcome will be worth it... especially since these are very basic... and will have weathiring and heavy panelling added on top.... the theme should flow from fron to rear... the underside will be darker as per orig design.

Any ideas for names?  I was thinking of maybe naming them after Volcanoes like Vesuvius or Etna.  Just a thought.  I see the first one is named Toronto so it's up to the creator.

I am so in love with this ship :D.  The textures are looking great markyd, can't wait to see her belly.  OK, so we could have Volcanoes for names, but I also came up with Native American Tribes, since she is the Arrow class.  I just think bow and arrow when I hear Arrow Class.  I figure I'll just create a list of names and see what everyone thinks.  Everyone should think of some names!

Tribes:

Apache
Arikara
Comanche
Cowichan
Karok
Laguna
Makah
Miwok
Nootka
Tolowa
Mohave
Navajo
Wailaki

Volcanoes:

Mazama
Vesuvius
Fuji
Tambora
Llullaillaco
Krakatau
Pelee
Mauna Loa
Title: Re: ARROW CLASS RUNABOUT

lol... keep the names coming  ;)

I added some more names to the Volcano list to even it out.  Also, how is this ship going to be numbered?  Will it be like the Delta Flyer, where she was simply a more advanced shuttle with the Voyager's registry on her hull, or like a Runabout where she has her own unique registry?
Title: Re: ARROW CLASS RUNABOUT

I think in the manner a runabout would be numbered would be quite fitting due to the size of the ship :)

Majestic - other than than I'm nearly speechless. Thanks for sharing. The third time is most definitely the charm for this little baby. If you know what specs you want, I'll HP/DP and convert her for you at a moments notice - to include a brk mod. Just give me a holler.

Majestic Class Runabout - enemies of the Federation better watch out!
Title: Re: ARROW CLASS RUNABOUT

I don't think it would use the standard NCC Reg's. Something like: http://www.treknology.org/tactical_patch2.jpg Or something that carries on from the MACO or even The Star Fleet Marine core.
Also how much weathering are you thinking of doing. As they may insert into an atmosphere without shields for covert missions. You know low power signature and all that. Otherwise looking good.

Question and you know I'm bound to ask for it Where's my Typhoon class?

TAC?  Tactical Assault Cruiser?  I wouldn't mind seeing one that's brand new, fresh off the line and then another that's been in the $hit, with atmospheric burns and phaser wounds.  Maybe paint one with a sharks mouth on the front like WWII aircraft.  Maybe have a WWII styled naked chick on the side with a catching phase underneath it. lol

And dont forget her valkyre fighters lol
Sorry Marky couldnt resist
the arrow class is looking great but as to your thought FW not all of these ships would be used just by marines/macos some would be scouts think about it
Title: Re: ARROW CLASS RUNABOUT
Post by: Starforce2 on September 08, 2008, 10:33:32 pm
how about something like the way the delta flyer was done. A logo on the side and whatever, I don't think the flyer was numbered itself, but carried the reg of it's host ship.
Title: Re: ARROW CLASS RUNABOUT
Post by: Darkseid on September 08, 2008, 10:34:27 pm
Lets see something like this painted on the hull lol.  Maybe an Orion Slave Girl would be nice lol.  As a possible registry, if you plan on making her an attack craft, it could be labeled LCIG-01 which would mean Landing Craft Infantry Gunboat and the number is, a number.  But if we go the Runabout route then really it should have a registry that's higher than the Danube Class which would put it in the NCC - 75000+ range.

I guess it depends on what sounds better USS/NCC or a Attack/Landing craft designation.  Example: USS Arikara NCC-75284, or Vesuvius LCIG-01

Bumpdate?  :D

I just couldn't let her fall off the front page without another little appetizer. She looks close to release quality.

If so and you need help getting her in game, my offer stands. I'll get her in game. I have some surgery tomorrow so I will be off the net for a few days. But once I'm back home. I'll jump on her like a chicken on a June bug, if she's ready!
Title: Re: ARROW CLASS RUNABOUT
Post by: Darkseid on October 08, 2008, 02:53:19 pm
Well if anyone is interested, this ship needs a back story.  That is of course if the creator didn't come up with one already.  But for the longest time I have wanted a really good Star Trek FPS for the next generation of consoles, (Xbox 360, PS3), which would catalog the struggle of Starfleet Marines during the Dominion War.  So I started writing up the basics for a Story and I thought the Arrow Class was perfect for their drop ship.

I made the Arrow a prototype Runabout which was being tested at a Starfleet research facility on Ganalda IV when the Klingons attacked during the Second Federation-Klingon War.  The MACOs fight their way into the facility and kept the Klingons from stealing it.  There is one particular scene I would love to see as a video game, where the MACOs fire up the ships phasers and spin her 360 degrees, vaporizing the attacking Klingons attempting to rush the ship.  Then they take off, victorious.  The ship would continue to be their main attack Runabout throughout the game.

What do you guys think?

Call me a bumpamaniac  :o but I just can't let the Arrow fall off the front page without an update request. She's a sweet design and looking like a superior mesh near completion. Think she'll come out to play before Thanksgiving?

Spam like this is so good I want to fry it up and have a sandwich! ;)

Redo the Arrow Tex's? You are too harsh a critic of your own art! They rocked!

I can't wait to see both. My conversion offer stands and I'd be honored to do both teh Arrow and the Olympic if you desire.

I am currently away from home - it never rains but pours... My Dad was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer four weeks ago, just prior to my back surgery. It moved to his brain the second week. As soon as I could travel I came here and have been helping care for him. He is on his death bed fighting hard and hoping for a miracle. So seeing such a beautiful medical ship  right now is very appropriate. THANKS!

Thanks for the kind words and mark of confidence by trusting me with your meshes when complete. We brought my Dad home today and are being supprted by hospice nurses. He is surrounded by his five children and 15 grandchildren. He lives in rural Tennessee and the night sky is impressive, so many stars and dark enough that you can actually see teh Milky Way. We haven't failed to see a shooting star yet.

My Dad passed away last week and we laid him to rest in an old country cemetery that hadn't been used in years. It is a beautiful and peaceful place on the side of a small hill with a huge maple tree right in the middle. It was still holding onto it's leaves at the service.

I have returned home and have normal net access and am ready to start the SFC3 conversions of your meshes at your leisure. Can;t wait to get my hands dirty with these excellent works of trek art.

Kinda started work on this again this week, waiting to get back to my olympic class, but until i get back to my lappy work on this will progess this week, I have changed the hue of the textures, brightened them up and created spec maps, working on the central spine atm, ;)

As a sidnote I did not fnalise a name, so Shadowfleet, being as you and a few others have been bumpmatic and persistant on its release it seems kinda fitting that this be named after your father mate.

So i have mapped out details on the underside, and mapped the spine out that runs up the centre, its coloured, but not detailed or azteced or anything yet, the glowy things are inplace, wanted to keep the scale so kept singular ones to the front, and then decided to frost them out to make them look tough.. as in tough plastics.. as this seemed to look vulnerable otherwise..

got rid of the logo on the wings, added a nice curvy starfleet stripe that too about an hour  :arms: ( not good with the pen tool me)  and i think it looks better..  slight adjustment to the hue of the necelle grill... (possibly still too purple)  but the rear glows and shades all work in tandem.. darkened the cockpit.. :-)

one render overall shot, 2nd render the toughy glassy stuff   :? or whatever it would be  :)

redid the necelles as I was not happy with the purple glow it had, also created new speculars. Im detailing that upper spine feature at the minute and then going to start work on the underside.

I kinda liked the purple glow.  Think you could include that texture as an alternative when the model is released?

MarkyD - Sorry I've been off the boards for awhile, I was back home visiting my Mom for Christmas.

First - I don't know what to say besides THANKS and I am very deeply honored! She is a nothing short of becoming one of the most remarkable trek ships ever. I can honestly say that besides the USS Enterprise and some of WZ updates to her, the Arrow is my favorite design. With every update you amaze me more. I am ready and waiting to convert her to SFC III as promised. My info is in my profile or I can contact you as well.

Second, my Dad's name was Ronald Evans Green. My sons name is Evan. So I'll open it up for nominations but I like the USS Evans.

Thanks again MarkyD - you are a true artist and possibly more importantly, even after I retire form the Air Force next year I will always count you as one of my brothers in arms. Thanks for sharing your digital artistry and thanks for serving your country and freedom.

I like the water effect. If you decide to go with a more traditional one - please leave this one as an alternate in the zip file.

I look forward to seeing her underside. She's looking real good, can't wait to see more.  What are you going to do for the cockpit?  Perhaps maybe a Delta Flyer look?  And what about the ships defenses?  Will there be pulse phasers or strips in the future?

Bumpdate - I've got my computer all warmed up and ready to convert. Plus I couldn't let the Arrow languish on the second page  :D

I am restarting the textures on the Arrow as I am no longer happy with them, and the Olympic was lost, but will be re-done  :smitten:

The Reason I am restarting the textures is that I am going to use 2 x 1024's instead of a singular 2048, and i want to re do some mapping areas.

Lol yeah she is alive, but I constantly look at it and want to make it better, but before I can do that I need to spead the mapping to 2 x 1024's and play with the symmetry some more..

I'll kepp you all updated when i get restarted on it  8)

Interesting as 1 2048 x 2048 has 4x the space of 1 1024 sheet. So by going down to two sheets you actually halved the space you have availible to texture on. Our video cards will love you for doing this but you made it harder on you to detail.

Yeah,

but the textures are going to be drawn on 2 x 2048 sheets, then for the sfc release I will reduce them to 2 1024's, as when i think about how small this will be ingame, their is really no need for high detail textures, but they will be avail for anyone that wants them, and will be used for Legacy and BC Releases. :)

Model is looking great! Take your time, and get her the way YOU want her.

Love the impulse crystal effect. However IMO it would look better if the effect was under a grill (like the TMP connies crystal). Your model so it is up to you of course. Looks great regardless. Very imaginative design.
