Sound editing was the last step in the post-production of Star Trek XI which was completed last month.

As reported by TrekMovie.com, Star Trek XI's post-production wrapped up Christmas week, and the movie, slated for a May 2009 release, is now ready for eager Star Trek fans.

Post-production took a bit under nine months. The only other Star Trek movie that took longer in post-production was 1979's Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

The final task to complete the film was having the sound editing done, which included sound designing and recording. Majel Barrett-Roddenberry's voice work as the Enterprise computer was done well before her passing last month, according to sources.

Academy Award winning sound designer Ben Burtt, who worked on the six Star Wars films as well as most of the Indiana Jones films, came aboard Star Trek XI and worked with Mark Stoeckinger. Stoeckinger has worked with J.J. Abrams before, most recently on Mission Impossible III.

I'm praying it fails.  I would rather see Trek die than turn into this.
