New take on Damage Texture, idea.

Here is what i've been having for an idea for damage textures.

This is the original Excelsior Saucer texture


This is what most damage textures are now-adays, a simple Craquelature filter


And this is what ive been using for a Universal damage texture


Now what ive been thinking is to put an underlaying structure ON TOP of this last texture, so that when you shot across the texture you would see the superstructure, as well as what the phaserbanks would look like as they got hit, or what a damaged Impulse engine would look like. etc.

Im working on a basic version of my idea for comparison.

Actually, that looks really cool! Gives me a few ideas


This is what i threw together real fast, but im gonna have to take another swing with the idea of making Thicker Gridlines where support struts would be.

Very cool, and turned out similar to what my idea was.. I used that idea to generate the attached one...

ARG TELL ME HOW YOU DID THAT ;) (ie tut for the tut thread ;) lol) (though i probably could take a wild guess somthing along the lines of removing the dark craters from the craqle(sp) w/ the damage texture underneath)

atheorhavens input is the best one yet, in my humble opinion... but i also think it could use some more of those 'yellow cracks' in it. bigger and brighter :)

atheorhavens input is the best one yet, in my humble opinion... but i also think it could use some more of those 'yellow cracks' in it. bigger and brighter :)

It would've been if I'd remembered the final step in it.. then it'd be about as bright as the original instead of dimmer.. :p
