Azel's Reman Dreadnought - WIP
« on: February 15, 2005, 04:43:05 pm »
Been offline for sometime and was/am still having trouble with 3d max on my system but I got enough time to put this together. I found a design on my system and from the amount of detail on it I am pretty sure it's Azel's. Bit of a problem is I only have the above view of the thing and therfor no idea about depth or underneath details. If anyone has other views or knows where to get them please let me know.

Only 4000 polies give or take 100 so I can make a few additions. I am only posting an above view for now, If you want more I'll post tomorrow. oh and it's untextured  :P

Also, Anyone got a Name, did Azel name this?

also I will add the original design, please note this is Azel's sketch.

Reminds me of a bird-bat hybrid or something like that.  Something Batman would have if he had the resources to build a starship.  Interesting design nonetheless.

That has got to be one of the sweetest Reman Ships Ever!  I can’t wait to add this one to the game.  Azel, awesome design as usual!  Hey wrathofachilles, ever think about making a Scimitar?

fotopic, which is what I use, is superior. More space and bandwidth. Direct linking is slightly less, but not that big a deal and it's free. Plus it's ftp upload and email upload and browser upload even cell phone upload. Basicly ya got more toyz.

Photobucket still works fine for me.  I never had trouble with it because it's easy to use, and I don't display overly-big pictures.  However, I will consider it, so thanks.

Thanks, I used a sub site of photobucket that you dont need to sign up for. It seems to work fine.

I'll get the textures done soon.

Also isn't there already and SFC scimitar?

ummm, as far as I know Azel's other Reman stuff is pre-Tos and already done by the man himself. I have some nice Rom's I'm considering but, and Azel will back me up here, I'm kind of useless when it comes to dedicating to particular models.... just my way.

As for a release. Texture with lightmaps will be done in maybe a week or two, Someone will have to convert if they want it though, I have never done SFC convertions.

which version, as if you have 4.0 or 5.0 you can export easily (but you will need to detatch your smoothing groups to the mesh...) just use the plugin, i tink its in the dled section

3dsmax 5.0. all mesh is separate but I'll cut all smoothing and group by texture then smooth the entire sections.

well I can't take any credit for the creativity, that's all Azel's. As for the accuracy I pretty much copy each panel piece by piece, so no claim to skill in that department. I am using a mix of the sketched details and screenshots of the Scimitar from Nemesis to create the texture.

that definately helps, at least with my perspective, I seem to have got the body height just right. the two... err tails I guess need thinning and so do the wings. The texture I aint started yet ;) glad for the picture though, thanks

Impressive...he can make remans...lol
Awesome!!!
ok I say don't thin out the wings by where they attach to the hul I Like that :) )l...just thin them out towards the tips...in an incrimental
aspec...If you could make the wing arc lower and more swept down...if you can
and if you  could, raise and seperate the 2 tail pods off of the hull (like the simitar...its on of the very few aspects I liked on the
design)

ok, hows this? wings are more pointed and swung a fair bit lower, casts a better profile now. tails have been raised and thinned at the end and have added the lower support beneath them. pointing the wings took polies so it's at 4500 now ;)

the angle is perfect you might want to pop on 2 weapon pods under the part of the wing that is horizontal
ummm try something like this: look at the top left sketch...see the weapon pods hanging down???

Ouch! Lol you guys must really want the dreadnought to say that.

but no need, I am going to finish it. I am just waiting for Azel to ok the design before I texture (none of this is going ahead until he's happy cause that'll mean I've got it right) and send to whoever wishes to convert. However I'll be glad to send the Mesh to Azel for safekeeping if he wishes.

I think I did the disruptors wrong but here it is with disruptors....

That is astounding! Do you think it possible to think about making some of Azel's other Rom ships, after this gets completed? Not tryin to overshoot, but you've done a marvelous job on this monster, and I and many othr just love these other designs!
Either way, excellent work!!
