Favour to ask
« on: April 09, 2005, 12:02:24 pm »
I have been trying to set up an out of the box EAW server. I have put the machine on which it is to run in a DMZ on my Belkin router. I am using server kit 3.0.33 (I think) the only one I have. I have tried changing the log in servers in the assets\serverprofile\my campaign\serversetup.GF file to the servers suggested by Capt. Jeff in the EAW server thread here. I still keep getting no connection to internet\firewall message. Do I need to alter in any other places the server files? It maybe my setup/DMZ I do not know, but I am technically challenged for all this stuff.

SO could some kind soul either tell me what I am doing wrong or alternatively slap up an out of the box standard server for EAW for me.

I want to show some peeps who have EAW but not OP how a Dyna works. These people only have EAW patched to 2.0.36 and have never seen a Dyna before.

Any help would be much appreciated.

2.0.3.6 was the last version of the EAW kit.

Use the SFC2 Directory Server mini-patcher for D2 on your client and use its addresses in the serverssetup.gf.

I do not reccomend the use of the DMZ but rather a static lan config and port forwarding. All too often users will use the DHCP and DMZ features of their router and wonder why it does not work.

Can't test it myself right now, not at home...

Cheers for that Bonk, much appreciated.

Now what the hell is static lan config port forwarding :) like I said I am technically challenged :) Idiot proof instructions (if that  is possible), thanks in advance.

Um, well the easiest thing to do is leave it the way it is and just check that the IP address for the DMZ matches the current IP address of the machine you are running the server on. (it may have changed since you last set the DMZ).

What windows version you running it on?

some rough guides:
http://www.hansenonline.net/Networking/Linksys102.html
http://www.clarkconnect.com/wiki/index.php?title=LAN_Configuration

Basically:
-set the IP address of the server to a local IP address outside the range of the dhcp server on your router, (e.g. 192.168.1.200)
-set its gateway to the router, (e.g. 192.168.1.1 - depends on the router)
-set its DNS servers to either the router lan IP or the actual DNS addresses for your IP (get from the wan info on your router)
-use port forwarding on your router to send the appropriate ports to the servers lan IP (e.g. 192.168.1.200)

Sorry that's not a better explanation...

Lemme see if I can get through to my home server to toss up a stock EAW server... (I can't login to test though - dont have EAW here...)

I put up a basic stock EAW server called: "EAW Stock Server". (can only leave up for about 5 days...)

Let me know if it works ok.

Looks like a patch problem Gook.

You need to be running the same version of the game that the server is running.

EAW patches here:

2002-2036 Patch

or

2033-2036 Patch

Or have you already logged in successfully and are now getting the error? (if so, reboot)

Or you may need to create a shortcut to the exe so the "start in" folder is correct...(?)

(Still not home to test a login)

Bonk,

I had already logged in and had a character, no probs doing that.

When I went back was when the problem occured.

Tried rebooting and I use a short cut!

Kor has just told me he has no probs so it must be me. I'll reinstall later.

Thanks for your help, you are a mate.
