Something funky....
« on: July 22, 2008, 09:40:14 pm »

I fired up MAX and decided to do a little screwing around, and I don't know what possessed me to do this, but I never expected the end results.

Here's something funky for you all.

*Nah...we need a 1000 tons of the stuff just to get the engines running*
LOL, that's just plain simple stupid...(no pun). Even 3 nacelles are too much for any ship. Uses too much deuterium. This thing could go to Pluto and back on warp and she'd need a refill laugh

I'm an American.  I love things that have power, go fast, and eats gas like there's no tomorrow.

But actually what you see in that image are two full models overlayed on top of each other.  I wanted to see if the general dimensions of the models were the same in terms of size, and they were.  When placed on top of each other properly, those elements that both models share will look seemelessly as one, and those elements that differ will kinda blend together.

Well, since I started this thread, I might as well use it further.

If anyone has checked the request thread for the F-CS+, you'll notice I put up a render of a bash I did rather quickly, but she had no textures.

I spent the night sorting the textures out, and also sorted some killer GAFY textures for her.  Thanks again GAFY.   Not Worthy Thumbs Up

Anyway, I thought I'd show what the ship looks like with WZ textures and with GAFY textures.

First three are WZ's original textures.  Last 3 are GAFY's retextures.

That;s awesome, but the CS had a shorter aft hull. Can you do a chop shop on it?

Rather not, for several reasons.

1.) To do what you ask would requre the textures to be redone and then remapped, two things I can't do nor can I even outsource right now.

2.) The pylons being used currently take up a good portion of the aft secondary hull.  Making the secondary hull shorter would actually make it look worse.

3.) I used the pylons I did to help create the effect of the ship's length being shorter, which it does quite nicely.  A couple others that I've spoken with actually agree with this.

4.) I think the standard secondary hull would be a practical upgrade from the TOS version.  After all, a TMP version is supposed to be more durable, more versatile, than their TOS counterparts.

If you haven't noticed, because the design of the pylons, I had to reposition the engines forward further to compensate, which gives the overall effect of the CS.

Only thing I don't know about is whether I should have also added an extra torpedo launcher to the torpedo bay so she's got 3 tubes firing forward.  That's actually easy to do, believe it or not.  The concept might be ideal, since this ship is supposed to be a strike cruiser, after all.

Think you shoulod have used the Valiant texture set though the aft facing phaser on the saucer would make more sense on this ship

I still can.  Just that I needed the hull texture sets from the Potemkin cause those are identical, in mapping conditions that is, to the Refit Connie that I used in this bash.

Because you made the retextures almost identical in style, with different designs to differentiate between them, I can mix and match.  Only downside I can see, phaser types that are used.

Personally, I wish I could see a more traditional TMP phaser style.

Also, I could actually texture bash a new set of phasers into the aft dorsal saucer, now that I think about it.  I've done it before on other textures.

I prefer GAFY's textures, although ur renders dont show them at their full potential.. if you can map.. mabey you should also consider re-shaping objects then replacing the mapping to add a distinctive feel to your bashes.

Nope.  Can't map, and believe me, I've tried.  Also I don't like reshaping objects.  One, never comes out right for me.  Two, again, can't remap.

I think it looks fine (asside from the silly number of nacelles) besides, from the thread title I thought he'd just taken off his shoes..

That first render of the ship with 5 nacelles was the funky thing, as you already well know.  The fact that I stumbled on that configuration by accident I just had to post an image of it.

As for taking off my shoes, I don't wear shoes.  I wear Harley boots.  And in the house I just walk around barefoot.
