Trying something New...
« on: December 03, 2009, 06:59:26 pm »
...Again :)

This is my Archer-Class warp prototype, as it uses the experimental "bow" nacelle configuration concept.  I call it the Arc-Drive

That's the best looking new idea I've seen in quite some time. I think you've got something really hot here.

Some of the angles remind me of an Asgard ship.

Now that I am thinking about it, if you wanted to try and fit in the Enterprise with the annular nacelles, this could be a precursor or in between  style.

a cross between asgard and some kind of war of the worlds type old school sci-fy. Interesting. Or the echo-papa weapon thingy...

Hey, just played with this.. have you thought about trying this as a station?

Did a quick mockup, see what you think.. the centre structure is just a filler circle as a connector, you'll soup it up of course.  ;)

Slightly reminiscent of a Cardassian station in that configuration.

Most original take on a federation design I've seen in a long time. I REALLY like it and I hope someone makes and releases her soon!

Thanks for sharing Atolm!

If he does the ship, I'd love to see it down as a station as well..

Man, I really need to sit down and start playing with meshing saucers again.. it'll fit in right after my locating that portal to a bubble in space/time where I can fit in a 37 hour day into my normal 24.  :p

But Chris' stuff makes me really want to play with it and see what I can do with it..

Still think its an awesome idea for an alien race, not really working for me for a Fed.

That is what I call a thing of beauty. I've seen some unique designs before but I think this is your most unique yet. Mind if I give this a go?? I think it would be quite some challenge although I would need someone else to texture the ship.

Oh and any further reference material would be useful when you get some time Atolm.

It looks alien. I see Andromedan possibilities when I look at them. That's just me though. I see Andros a lot. ;)

I really do like that nacelle setup and whilst I would agree it is remeniscence of Andromeda it certainly adds a unique character to the design. I would put this is the same family I class the likes of the Defiant and Steamrunner (and several others as well). A couple of questions though.

- What kind of size is the ship supposed to be?? I see the shuttle but as its not defined what shuttle type it is, its difficult to get a picutre of the overall size.
- With there being, what I assume to be, an auxilary deflector can the ship, in times of destress, disconnect from the engineering hull (core breaches and such things)??

Thanks mates for the CCs
The ship is around 250-300 metres long, no more, no less.
At this moment, I feel that the ship challenges a lot, but she definitely can readily be identified as a Federation ship.  I will still be playing with the shape just a bit more, but I will mainly be working out the details :)
Then the schematic :D

Major- I dunno on the deflector pod (because the main engineering is in the saucer).
As for the shuttle you'll see more of that idea soon too :)

Interesting. Well it could be a large life pod perhaps. I mean if you look at the likes of the Prometheus it does have auxillary nacelles that are part of the saucer when its in MVAM mode, so maybe this could have the same (would be an interesting thing to see though).

I'm sure you did it the way it is on purpose, but I'll say this anyway... ;) I think it would look better with the 2ndary hull towards the rear of the saucer rather than towards the front.

Very awesome design though. Very original, departs, no, runs away from the norm and accepted convention, still very commercially viable though. Reminds me of your design that had the 2ndary hull more or less vertical underneath the saucer.

Forgive me for the utter travesty I performed on your hull drawing.

The ship looks Andorian designed to me.  I think perhaps the hull needs a definate but subtle bow and stern distinction.

Thinking of the Kestral and other early Andorian built or designed ships.. From SFM site.  I recall reading that the Andorrians preferred to
attach the warps directly to the primary hull.

Again, forgive me for what I did to your work.

LOL, Don't worry 'bout it mate.
If I'm not mistaken, you are referring to the unicorn games RPG Andorian book.
In said book they did show saucered ships for the Andorians.

I did, but I think the nacelles look better in like I first had them.. and Yes, that's a hint that I'd like to see a station done in this style.. ;)

Atolm,

I love that no matter what anyone has said, you have pursued this design as a federation start trek design..   and with ur later images... bang you shut them up, nice work.. i think it looks great, would love to see more.  ;)
