Battle at the grave of thought: WTH?!
« on: February 14, 2003, 12:54:11 am »
Ok... so I've been playing the single-player campaign (compiled for OP) for the last few days.. and I've finally reached the mission "Battle at the Grave of Thought."

Problem #1 spotted: I appear alone on my side. I hail the friendly listening post and they report that I still have 2 allied cruisers in the game.

"Ok. fine." I quickly add some basic debug output to the script.
Basically, to the part where it adds my 2 allies:

Code:

FILE *fp = fopen("c:\\batgot.txt", "w");
fprintf(fp, "Yes, I really got here.");
fflush(fp);
fclose(fp);

I start the game.. get to the mission.. and voila, the friendly NPCs are present!
.. I removed the code tidbit, got to the mission again in the game, and no friendly AI.

....
....
....
.... some kind of weird timing issue?
.. any suggestion to add a proper small delay at each team's creation?

Under EAW, I think the bug is:

Quote:

I'm trying to finish the "Battle at the Graveyard of Thoughts" mission (FED.) I capture all the bases, destroy all the ISC ships, and call for a transport, but it NEVER arrives.

.. sounds similar.. timing issue in the game again? Think delays will help here too?

Note:
.. all AI ships created in this mission are hardcoded in the game. If they're not in the shiplist, the ship won't get created.
ie: the Hydran AI friendlies are: H-OV, H-D7H.
.. comments?

How about giving those ships specific customIDs, then do a check to see if the ships exist eg if *ship == NULL, and create the extra ships if needed...

Within a TimerID? An interesting idea.
I'll look into it when I have time. My SO will be giving birth within the next few days.

.. unless someone else can take care of it?

It worked. First hurdle past: creation of allied ships.

.. next hurdle, fixing the Transport creation.

Ok!

.. I think that fixes things:

1- Allied ships now appear.
2- Calling extra cruisers now works.
3- Calling for freighters now works.

.. Is there anything else that needed to be fixed?

Would somebody be kind enough to post a link for the patched OP Battle at the Grave of Thoughts?  I only found a dead link.
Many thanks.

Thankyou very much!  The fighters/PF mod is supposed to work with the OP campaigns, can't wait to try it out!

Hey Tracy,

Where did that picture you use originally come from?  I have seen several people using it now, but nobody seems to know where it came from (some Gothic site is as close as anyone knows)...

Just curious...

Jim

ps.  I saw it again today on yahoo in a chat room... the girls profile is at:

That b**tch, she stole my picture... lol

You are in fact correct, it does come from an art website, a very good one actually, and yes, it has a very gothic theme to it. The artist is Dorean Cleavenger, his website is at http://www.dorianart.com/ , there you will find the original portrait in its entirety. I'm not surprised that others are using it as well. He has quite a lot of artwork displayed on the site. Be warned though, it does contain *** ADULT MATERIAL ***.
I chose that particular one for two reasons, 1: I liked his work and thought it would look great in a sig pic, and 2: I wanted an image that bore as close a resemblance to myself as possible. Oh, and more than likely most of the others would have been banned from the forums anyway... lol.

Jim
