Kavek III was dying.
His reign had spanned thirty years, longer than any other Emperor other than Kahless himself, and now he was going to die in his bed. The Empire was stronger now than any other point in it’s history since the leaving of the Old Kings, and his family had bred emperors for the last century. The Empire now controlled more systems and more resources than ever and had the military to protect it for the next 144 years. And yet now he was faced with the prospect of risking it all for the benefit of the fact that he may secure the Empire for the next thousand years. Lord Mak Kenaal, his ambassador to the Lyran Emperor Rahrzak, had just finished giving him a briefing with how he would finalize the details for destroying the Filthy Hydran Monarchy first and then the Hated Kzinti.
