Romulan K4R Escort and K5R Frigate retextures
« on: December 30, 2005, 07:09:16 pm »
Lately I've gotten a lot more interested in the Romulans, and since they are the most neglected of the canon 'big-three' I thought it was time they got some love shown in the form of filling out their meagre TMP era shiplist. The KRs are particularly lacking, the last non D7 conversion I saw was Atra's D5->KDR retexture which is a nice model but the dayglo orange isn't my thing.

So I've retextured Wicked Zombie's E4 escort model - one of my favourites, into the K4R the very first Kestrel series ship the Romulans got in the official SFB timeline when the Klingons refused to part with even the ancient D6s in their possession.

Pics:

As you can see I've gone for the older grey colour scheme and the TOS style emblem featured on WZ's site I also mimicked the colour scheme of his K7R (the Romulan D7 Klolode conversion) but have used a different shape for the abstract eagle on the underside and the orange areas on the top of the wings as obviously the completely different wingshape of the E4 prevented a direct use of the K7R shapes.

The colour scheme and emblem choice was because I wanted to show these were acquired very early on during the GW before the TMP era and the switch to green for Romulan ships, also this way I can make a green version with the more common TMP/TNG Romulan emblem (the bird grasping 2 planets, but not the hideously nauseating Nemesis version) and different ship names and have that version be the 'republican' version for a Romulan civil war re-enactment thingy. (AFAIK after the GW the RSE falls apart and has a civil war deposing the Emperor and emerging a 'republic' with the Praetor assuming the Imperial trappings for himself)

This ship is the R.I.S. Lucius, named after Lucius Vorenus one of the only 2 common soldiers mentioned in Julius Caesar's De Bello Gallico books, also he was used as the inspiration for one of the lead characters in that 'Rome' drama that was on recently. But just pretend Lucius is the name of a famous Romulan general or consul or something.

I also made the K5R, the Romulan conversion of the F5 frigate, these ships were initially delivered to the RSE in the 'official' SFB timeline at the same time as the D6s which became the R-KRs.

Different eagle motif and top wing colouring and named the R.I.S. Vorenus - the other half of Lucius Vorenus. Again imagine a Romulan history for the name... :P

Pics:

Same basic look as the K4R but obviously the motif had to be changed again because of the different wingshapes of the E4 and F5.

This thread is a repost from WZ's forums but alot more people post here (so far only Atolm has commented on the ship, which was nice) and I really wanted to get more opinions on the retextures

Will also be doing green versions with the TMP->TNG Romulan emblem

They are already D/Led. ;D

Great to see someone doing justice to the Birdie designs... everyone does so many Feds and Klingons, but the ROms get left out in the cold. :(

No he just, wasn't paying attention to my post, there's no d/l link anywhere for the simple reason that I have not 1. gotten a reply from Wicked Zombie yet on his forums and 2. I'd have to either contact my old pal RogueNineCH and ask him to upload the files to his site or find an alternative host.

P.S. I absolutely refuse to use Battleclinic after some kitbashes of mine were uploaded there by someone else who was listed as the 'author' they removed the files but I'm dubious about them anyway especially after the way they treated Mudd.

Thanks for the kind words on the retextures, obviously most of the credit must go to Atolm for designing the F5 and Wicked Zombie for builing it and adapting it to make the E4 two brilliant Klingon designs. His Vengeance Hawk is my absolute favourite Romulan ship (another Atolm design aswell).

P.S. The K4R is also done in green with the TMP Romulan insignia, the K5R will probably be done soon aswell when I can be bothered to remove the TOS insignia (forgot to keep a copy of the texture sans insignia so I'll have to carefully remove the TOS one).

LOL... I'm being wise, E...

There was no link, the first post said they weren't up yet. I was just wanting him to know how anxious I was to get them... we are short good Roms around here.

Theyl'll be up on my site soon enough.  After S33K100 emails them to me, I'll do a break model and hardpoints, and then upload them.

Lo Rogue, check your mail my friend, just sent them over, I includeed WZ's original readmes and etc. and since they're just retextures they can keep the original WZ _brk.mod and HPs. Although I did forget to include a readme explaining the new textures were by me, er... If you could just add a notepad file saying the retexture was by S33K100 A.K.A. Marco Alfano and hosting by yourself that'd be great.

Sorry all, I'll e-mail Rogue again tommorow and see what's happening. I sent the files to him a while ago now and he said he'd have them up at his site soon but I've not heard from him since. I'm sure there's a perfectly reasonable explanation, but right this moment it's 3 in the morning here so, night...
