Dynaverse II Issues for Orion pirates

Hello all.
First I'd like to thank all of you guys who have contributed to helping keep this great game alive. I've used quite a few of y'alls things at home playing with friends on LANs, but now I'm attempting to enter the realm of Dynaverse. Unfortunately, I have failed in my attempts. I'm getting the firewall/lack of connection message when I attempt to enter Dynaverse. I probably screwed something up, and decided that this was probably the best spot to get help for it.  Thanks for your help in advance, Riskyllama.

System Specs~~AMD Athalon 2700+ 1Gig Ram
Operating system and update Service Pack version~~Windows XP SP2
DirectX version~~9.0c
Game title : there are 2 SFC games with Dynaverse II~~Orion Pirates, but I'd prolly have the same luck with my copy of EAW
Patch version of the game~~2.5.5.2
Internet Connection type~~Bellsouth DSL Lite(256/128)
Do you have a router?~~router functions built into the modem(WireSpeed Dual Connect), I'm pretty sure I opened all the ports listed in the thread  here: http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163349163.0.html
Do you have a firewall?~~Window's SP2 firewall, but it was turned off to no avail

Update: In all but one attempt, I've gotten the message that I'm behind a firewall or my connnection is down. On that one time I get through I see about four servers, and decide to see what this AOTK2 is like. I try joining it and realize I'll need the AOTKK files...I get off OP, grab them, and while having changed nothing, on the next login, I can't get past the Dynaverse login screen..

Since then, I've tried firewall on, firewall off, DMZed with firewall, even once (really really quickly) DMZed without firewall..they all say I'm behind a firewall or my connection is down...

Odd, I can ping your current IP address at an average 81ms - a good thing...

You running any anti-virus software? (both Mcafee and Norton can filter IP traffic)

I had a situation once where McAfee unpredictably interfered with serial communications to instruments...

Try disabling the DMZ feature of your router/modem altogther?

Also, occasionally the directory server may be disconnected for network service.

I get no reading on it right now.
As for antivirus, I've got AVG, but my one successful attempt logging on, it was running.
And shutting it off just now didnt help.

The directory server seems to be ok (I just checked and could login with my OP client).

(do you have the directory server fix installed? SFC2 Directory Server mini-patcher for D2 ... I guess you must if you could login once...)

Which model of the WireSpeed Dual Connect do you have?

^^^ ahhh, that's the one, expert mode, disable dhcp, configure the client machine statically, "custom" forward 2300-2400 and 47624 (tcp and udp for all) and that's all thats necessary for the D2...

Just to address the issues...

firmware is up to date,
Window's native PPPoe is handling things...
as for the USB side part it's unused, its the Ethernet one...I dont think I rememebered to mention this:
 the modem goes into a D-Link switch(not Bellsouth's All in One router/modem/gateway thingy that they charge a bit more for) and several computers connect to the web that way.

Having gone and done that, is removing the DHCP server gonna cause any drawbacks for other users on the network,if they're mainly just going to surf?

Also when I try to do port 47624, it gives me the message in the accompanying image file (I realize I typed in the wrong port in the picture, but it tells me that when I type them in right too.

Ah, if you have other users connected through a switch, then you probably won't want to disable the dhcp server, just statically configure your machine on an IP address outside the range of the dhcp server (but still private). And forward ports to that static IP address.

Network modem, not USB... good...

Does the D-link switch have any NAT features? (which model?)

Looks like the form may not accept a single port as a range? (try just using 47624-47625 to see if thats it...)

it accepts single ports, but it doesnt seem to like them if both the global and base ports are really big...unfortunately I still cant connect

i went ahead and disabled the DHCP and it didnt affect anyone noticably so far, and if we can get it working in any configuration(DHCP or not), thats a start

the dlink is a DSS-5+ (doesnt have any NAT that I know of)  but if we need to, i think(know) i can get ahold of a DLink DI-604 router

Edit: How would one go about disabling the routing properties of the modem, and using the DLInk to route, since i can probably get more options/better results with it?


Edit:As of 9:08 PM Under the  [size=20] great [/size] advice and support of Bonk..I do believe I've done it. The trick is not using custom port forwarding, but firnding an incorrectly labeled(marked for straight SFC) preset with the correct ports. WOO HOO!!!! YAY! Pour on the karma! +some for Bonk!

Glad you figured it out! 

OK, you'll probably want to reenable your dhcp server as the effect will not be noticed until users reboot. (they wont get an IP address on reboot and will be disconnected unless configured statically).
