Realizing I haven't posted a genius idea for a day or two- something else I was thinking of
(this won't likely apply to Katfight, but may figure into a later server)

Trying to balance sides has been as issue for a bit, and (imho) continues to be with our still dwindling numbers. Add this to my new enthusiasm (at least until it effcts me) for reducing the number of special ships on some servers and you get.

- Players who sign up before a server starts to play and declare whcih side they fly for get a
"specialty" ship of their choice (obviously not DN/BCH/CVDs etc). These ships would only be available this way, and not purchasable through the yards.

I think it would help the casual player, I don't get to play much and it takes me a fair amount of playing to get outta my tiny at start ship. 

I am not sure how many casual players there are,.. and to be honest if we don't play that often, then why catter to us.

Still,.. sounds good to me.
