OK.. first of all.. lets start from the beginning.. Uninstall everything..
go into My Computer, right click on C drive, click on properties
Go into the tools tab and Click on the button under error checking.. in the little pop up window, select the top check box only, click ok.. a warning message will pop up.. click OK..
Reboot system.
after reboot, Turn off Anti-Virus and reinstall game and use the 534B patch located at the top of this forum.. say no to Direct X and say no to Gamespy Arcade.
Next go into your SFC 3 game directory and go into Assets / Videos and find the (name).BIK files and rename them to (name).old sometimes the BINK player will stick your Vid card.
Next go to Start, Click Run, type in Services.msc and click OK
Find Universal Plug and Play, Stop the service, then right click on it, select Properties, then in the drop down box, set it to Disable (this service is only used to discover new hardware connected by USB.. re-enable when you buy a new device, load drivers, Disable service again)
Next install the SFC3 Directory Server Fix
Restart system
Right click on your SFC 3 desktop shortcut and click Properties, put a check into Disable Visual Themes, click OK
Reinstall latest Version of Direct X, just in case something on your system buggered it.
Make sure your Video Drivers are up to date and you have all updates from Microsoft and get the latest Drivers for the rest of your hardware, motherboard, firmware for your HDD and CD drives (Driver conflict may be playing an issue here).. make sure to update your Network Card and flash your modem with latest Firmware..
Configure your Firewall with the ports listed above.. If you have a Firewall and a Router, the kill the firewall,, your router is a Physical firewall already.. you need to configure the ports in it instead.
Now turn your AV back on..
Adjust your INI file for Behind NAT and your vid size and your voices...
now try logging on to the Dynaverse..
Hope this helps..

I don't think it's a problem with SFC. I think it has to be somewhere higher up, I just don't know what it could be. I get the same problem with SFC2:EAW. If the XP Firewall is set to allow SFC, there is no firewall or antivirus software running, and I set my router to be in the DMZ, what could possibly be blocking all of this?

It may be your ISP.. contact them and get hold of their lvl 2 or lvl 3 teck support.. they may be blocking the necessary ports on their end..
also try scanning your system with an onine virus scanner, your on system scanner may have been comprised.
Next make sure you are using XPSP 2 and not the XPSP 3 Beta.
Make sure you are using Direct X 9.0c and not the Direct X 10 Ported for XP... (XP hardware can not support Direct X 10 in most cases)
Other than that, it may be a buggered driver in your system making a conflict...
I would suggest backing up your HDD to a zip drive, reinstall XP, get all patches through Windows Update, then restore your backup, reinstall system drivers.. then try game again.. XP may have been corrupted..
before you try any of that.. I would also manually check your install of the Directory Server fix file... for both EAW and SFC 3 (the downloads are different) and make sure the game is in the same directory that you installed to from disk.
If you installed more than 1 time usig the disks.. then you have to have the game in the last directory you used from disk install.
when installing. make sure you said NO to Gamespy Arcade and Direct X.. those can cause your system / game to corrupt..
I'll look into this some more, but that is off the top of my head...

Can someone give me the correct settings/IP addresses for the Dynaverse access servers, for both EAW and SFC3? That way I can manually make sure it's trying to correct to the right place.

Have you tried bypassing the router and connectng directly to the modem? At least that will tell you if the problem is in the pc or in the router.
