Good News on Hobby Front
« on: July 24, 2008, 02:46:05 am »

The owner of Round 2 (was the former owner of Playing Mantis) has bought the AMT, ERTL, Polar Lights line from Raceing Champions. He is re-releasing the Original Enterprise from the 1970s model line and also the Polar Lights Enterprises. Also for next year they are releaseing a 1/1000 scale Akira Class model that will be a little over 18 inches long in plastic. R2 has stated they will be re-releaseing the old Star Trek line that AMT had along with makeing new Star Trek kits. So be on the look out.

Scroll down for the amt 18 inch re-release and polar lights 1/1000 enterprise re-release info on the above link.  The akira news was announced at wonderfest last week and there is a lot of talk at starshipmodeler about this in the forums there. Round 2 was also polling the patrons there for what models they would like to see.  http://www.starshipmodeler.net/talk/viewtopic.php?t=64603

Dax I didn't know ya visited Starship modeler also. I thought I was the only one that visited there and Hobbytalk.com.

I have placed a few orders with them. One of my 1/350 enterprises, the detroyat conversion kit for the 1/1000 PL and some tools and supplies. The side cutters are nice. I used to just cut parts away with an exacto knife. Side cutters went really well with a model I just built with my son.

I just haven't had the chance to build anything for myself. I have had the ptolemy tug (from federation models) out on the work table for a little bit and the 1/350 enterprise saucer is sitting there right now.  I want to put in LEDs but it looks like I won't start until the kids are back in school and that start will just see me getting the electronics together on a breadboard.

It's going to be awhile as "stuff"keeps happenning, but I'll be glad to share when I get there.  I'm brt on starship modeler forum.

http://www.unique-leds.com/index.php

http://www.goldmine-elec.com/

These are 2 of the recommended sites by modelers at sm for 1.8mm LEDs. 1.8mm is as small as you will get for now. That's still too big much much closer to scale for the nav and strobe lights. 3mm and 5mm can be used for internal lighting.

is listed as Storvick on Hobbytalk, and Tomar at Starship modeler. The only person i hate on those forums is Don. From the way he talks and replies to my posts makes me feel that just because he selling modeling stuff he has the right to be snobbish and rude to some of the people.
