'SFB' based or not?
« on: June 05, 2013, 01:25:01 pm »
Just curious.

While I'm sure a "good" "trek" combat game could exist that wasn't based on SFB I've not seen anything that's com close to SFC2/OP.

What are your thoughts and plans?
Who'd thunk that Star-castling was the root of all evil . . .

SFC4 cannot be based on SFB, unless we get permission from ADB.

Technically, we could get away with it for a non profit game but since they are active and alive, to obtain their game data and using it, well I will not do that.

I would like to, but as far as I know it is a no go.

This also means no SFU.

However, we will used what is pure Trek Based, in the movies, series etc that were not invented by ADB.

Honestly I did not know their sales were that good, that we could be ignored.

We did update EAW, so that proves we do know what we are doing.

IP problems and a lack of ability to get a license (mainly because they won't license another game) prevent SFU stuff from being used.

$VC also requires a Star Trek license before he'll even consider giving permission because his own license is tenuous and the only reason he gets away with SFB is because its such a niche market.

We intend to pursue license from CBS, but we desire to wait until we have something to show them, probably an alpha or beta release.  But at that point to incorporate SFB or SFU in any fashion will be too late.

ADB can do as they choose, as can we.  :crazy2:

it's a shame, the SFU stuff was by far a more interesting "universe" from a gaming perspective than the Trek.  The races, alliances, weapons, tactics, lore, etc . . .

Just don't make it simplistic and sh*tty like legacy, please.

I am one person, I cannot do everything.  I will be glad to include stories, lore etc.  But somebody needs to provide it to me.
