Requesting help!
« on: January 24, 2003, 12:21:36 pm »
I'm at a loss on what to do.

My fleetmate, TraceyG and I cannot play on GSA in the same room.  She can't log onto any D2 server I create (She cannot see it on the list, but the rest can).  I'm not sure what the problem is.

She has played with me on GSA before and logged onto my D2 test server before, but can't now.

When she enters the Gamespy lobby she always has a 0 ping to me, and a few others. The rest have pings and are normal.  As a consquence she cannot see nor enter any D2 servers I create, nor any GSA games.  I believe the problem is on Tracey's end and iIt's drving me nuts!

Has anyone heard of this problem before and know of a way to correct it?

P.S.  She does have a Belkin 4-port router, and she is running on the DMZ.

Do you have any Firewal software running?

I've gotten "invalid TCP Flag" error when I've connected to you in the past on D2.

No my firewall is turned off and her router is the DMZ.  All ports are open.

Again, Im not having problems with anyone else but Tracey.  She is having multiple problems, ie, cannot see my D2 servers, but everyone else can, she has mutliple 0 pings to people in the GSA lobby.

I don't know what I can do to help her.

Have you tried power-cycling the ADSL/Cable modem and router?
And releasing and renewing the WAN DHCP lease at the router?

If running XP, maybe a system restore to a point prior to the trouble?
(Was directx 9 installed?)

If running XP, Is the "Internet Gateway Device Discovery and control client"
installed under Networking Services in Windows Setup? (should be,
...UPnP on the client and router should both be disabled however)

Is there any antivirus software running? (should be completely disabled)

Is the client machine on the LAN configured with a static IP?
(should be for DMZ or port forwarding to work reliably..)

Has the ISP started blocking/filtering "hacking" ports?

These are just some initial thoughts and questions,
I think I read of somebody with the same problem on
the old Forums but havent been able to find it yet...

Can she see any other D2 servers? Or join GSA rooms hosted by
others? If so, the problem may be on your end DarkElf.
Have you been testing the loginban feature? (not sure how it
works but you might want to check your hosts file...)

P.S. if the firewall in use is BlackIce, I have found it to block
the WON servers even when the engine is shut down
and the application closed. I resolved this by adding the
WON IP addresses to the firewall's trusted list.
(208.57.228.3 -  same IP as old Taldren forums)
See if you can ping sfc2.west.won.net or sfc2.central.won.net
(both map to 208.57.228.3)
I have stopped using BlackIce since.
...the old forums seemed to just die as I was browsing
search results there - In which case the WON server is likely
down right now too (3:40pm EST) - arg! - Just came back up @ 3:46pm EST...

Note: I had to add the new forums address to my trusted list in ZoneAlarm
for these forums to work correctly. (unrelated - unless you changed a trusted entry
for 208.57.228.3 (Old Forums and WON server) to 208.57.228.4 (New Forums).

If none of this helps, give us some more config info (OS etc...)

A couple of more things to try:

Don't use DMZ (see Cleavens post in the old forums). Forwarding works better. I had the same problem unitl I forwarded all the necessary ports to my game system.

Are you running ADSL or Cable? It has come to my attention lately that ADSL may not have the necessary upload to handle such connections.

Same goes to Tracey, ADSL or Cable. This could me complicated if you are both using ADSL.

I used to have router problems with SFC2 and Windows 2000.  One day I decided to fix them by physically plugging the internet LAN cable directly into my computer.  I change my IP address.  Then I keep Norton Antivirus operating with all the bells and whistles in case of emergency and shut off the firewall.

Works wonders!
