Of COURSE they don't match the ship. They are detachable pods! This is fully intentional.

That was one thing I never could understand about Star Trek and why I liked SFB in some ways better. In Star Trek, they always make Klingons use Green hulls, but in SFB they use the dark Grey. Maybe the Green is suppose to do something with the cloak, don't know, in Star Trek. But I've always been more fond of the Grey color look of SFB for Klingons.

I thought it was TOS, TMP- gray hulls and TNG & later- blue/green hulls. I don't know anything about SFB.
