Very cool ship indeed I love new Rommies. It has a TNG 'ish flare to it.

IMHO stay true to the design. If ya wanna move the wings, make it a varient then you'll have 2 ships for the price of one.

Antivyrus,

First, thanks for taking my suggestion on making this ship.  As far as I am concerned, we can't get enough Romulan ships.

Second, the ship is looking great.  As far I can tell, it is very true to the orginal design and I concur with MP that you should keep it that way but by all means go ahead with some artistic license and modify it accordingly.

I am definately looking forward to having this ship in my Romulan fleet.

Regards,

Pepperman

Thanks Peppermsn, on a side not PLEASE condense all your Rommies into one thread. It will be easier to track them all. And seriously I don't want any of them to slip through the cracks.........I have so many backrounds and as of yet no shhips to mate them to, and besides that I like your work.

The P'Vael is an original design by Brad Torgersen, proprietor of the FASA Trek site at http://www.sub-odeon.com/stsstcsmua/ .  His writeup says that the ship was built as a response to the alliance between the Klingons and Federation, so the ship would be late Lost Era, from around the late 2340's or 2350's.

Captain Pierce: thanks for the info on the design

Pepperman and MP: I have already desided to stay true to the concept, but going to do a refit also

designers backstory:

FANSHIP DESIGN & STATS: Brad R. Torgersen, 1997
P'vael Class Destroyer
Known sphere of operation: Empire-wide, with heavy concentrations along Klingon border.
Data Reliability: B
Major Data source: Starfleet encounter scans, Romulan Sector Intelligence
Brief history: The P'vael class is named after a small, extremely strong avian predator native to the Romulan planet Remus.  Constructed as a direct response to the union of the Federation with the Klingon Empire, P'vael class vessels soon became notorious amongst both Klingon and Starfleet personnel as an unusually rugged and effective combat ship. Operating in squadrons of three to six ships and using a mixed bag of plasma bolt and disruptor beam technology, the P'vael did much to harass the Klingon Defense Force and Starfleet during the little ship's prime years.  By 2365, with over half the total production run of P'vael vessels having been lost in combat, and their spaceframes proving increasingly small and vulnerable when compared to the larger and much more advanced Klingon and Starfleet ship designs, the Romulan Star Navy began mothballing these old destroyers.  That changed, however, with the advent of the Jem'Hadar and the Dominion.  Seeing the immediate threat posed by the small and agile Jern'Hadar attack craft, and suffering from the loss of numerous Warbird class ships during the failed Romulan-Cardassian invasion of the Gamma Quadrant, the Star Navy began a rapid reintegration program that brought all available P'vael ships back into service.  Sporting improved technology on nearly every level, the P'vael is once again taking its toll on the varied foes of the Romulan Empire.

Fallen Warrior/MP:  Unfortunately, I will have to pass on joining the team at this time.  Prior commitments and life in general don't permit it.  Nevertheless, I will be more than happen to share whatever Romulans that I come up with.

Oh by the way, I sent Brad an email to inquire whether or not he might still have a copy of the colorized version of his P'vael class.  Thought it might come in handy for textring.

Pepperman

FYI.  Response from the ship's original designer, Brad Torgersen, WRT to info on a colorized version of this ship.

Quote
Unfortunately, I lost the original, colorized bitmaps for the P'vael in a hard disk crash in the late 1990's.  Overall, the P'vael used various greens, moving between deep emerald to something a lot like olive drab. .... I am sure whatever texturing and colorization you and yours can come up with, will
work just fine.

WRT weapons, here are his comments:

Quote
When I designed the ship, I pictured the weapons residing exclusively in
the "foot" pods at the ends of the "legs".  I didn't do any detailed sketching of this class, beyond the top-down, bow-on, and side-on views, so I can't give you any more specifics.

Brad is pleased that his little ship has been modelled in 3D.  Here are his comments:

Quote
It's fascinating to see the P'vael rendered in 3D!  It was really difficult, on
a 2D level, to create the P'vael and have the three different aspects match up with eachother.  It has always been so with the FASA-style designs.  That the ship looks so good in 3D form tells me I did good.

Antivyrus:  Once again, great job on the model.  If you don't mind could you send me the MS #d file once you have it finished.

pvael is completed

final poly count is 4412

for some reason smoothing group got destroyed when ported to 3ds

other than that I'm happy with the results

Threw a quick change of clothes on her to get an idea of how see would look.  Basically, just took Brad's orginial sketches and overlaid them on the P'vael.

Sorry to resurrect a very old thread but I was going through some of my note and ran across this one.  Did we ever post it up?  I tried to accesss battleclinic but am not receiving any joy at the moment.  I can't remember if MP set this one up or not.
