Firewall/not online error when attempting D2 sign on-- Was working last night.
« on: December 06, 2005, 03:08:12 pm »

I was able to sign onto the D2 last night and did so, running a few missions on the Forge.  Today, however, no matter what I try, I get the firewall error at the login page.  This morning, I UN-installed the Symantec 2006 security suite.  Other than that, I have not consciously changed any of my settings or software.  DMZ is enabled on my Linksys router, and my Windows XP firewall is disabled.

I am running windows XP, SP2, on a sooped up AMD Athlon 1800 machine.  My router is a Linksys WRT54GS to which I am directly connected via ethernet cable.  My internet connection is Cable (Cox) High Speed.

Anyone have any idea what the problem could be, here?  Does uninstalling Symantec change some setting somewhere that would affect my ability to connect to the D2?  I did not have any problems connecting before I installed Symantec 2 weeks ago, nor for the past two weeks with Symantec installed.

I really don't want to have to do another reinstall of all the SFC stuff.

Thanks!

Oh, and I forgot to mention-- all my other "online" applications (email, internet explorer, etc., are working fine.)

I just finished perusing Midnight Tech's thread below and nothing seems to help.  Port forwarding on, DMZ on.  Nothing.

Seems to be Working now, though I did lose connectivity mid mission.  Going to give it another shot now. Don't know what the problem was.

Port forwarding on, DMZ on.

Do not use both, one or the other.

Ensure you have read this thread:
http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163359567.0.html

Ensure you have applied the directory servers patch.

If you are using a router, for the love of God read the full users manual.

Provide more info, connection type, are you using a router, are you using a software firewall, are you running Norton or McAfee? That sort of thing.
