HELP! ModelsPlease your Fed Travel Pod does not work.
« on: November 21, 2007, 12:40:02 pm »
Hi ModelsPlease,

I downloaded your Fed TMP Travel Pod from Battle Clinic.  It appears as a solid black object with just the bottom of it with any detail (podbot.bmp texture map) in both SFC1 and the Taldren Mod Viewer.  When I removed the SFC2 texture maps (podboti.bmp and podi.bmp) it appears as a solid white object with just bottom details in the Taldren Mod Viewer and still appears as a black object with bottom details in SFC1.  It seems that the SFC1 texture map pod.bmp is missing.  Will you please fix this?

Here is a link to the Battle Clinic entry on Fed page 56 (it is the 5th entry on the page):

Just checked.. and did a quick look..

There's a file in there called Clipboard01.bmp that's out-sized.. once scaled back to 256x256, it shows up fine with textures in ModViewer.  Haven't checked the illum texture reference as I'm at work.. :)

I've attached the resized file as a JPG.. open it in Paint and save it as a BMP, overwriting the original Clipboard01.bmp file, and that should fix it as a temporary fix for you until MP issues the correction..

atheorhaven,

It did not work.  Microsoft Paint would not load the JPG file, it said it was not a BMP file.  I'm still using Windows 98 Second Edition.  However, I loaded the JPG file using PhotoFinish (by Zsoft copyright 1992) and saved it as a BMP file.  This still did not work, so I copied Clipboard01.bmp and named the copy pod.bmp, but this still did not fix the problem.

Thanks anyway,

Okay, there are two things that need to be done, either convert the one that I attached to a BMP using Infraview or something else (I've had really good results with XNView running under Windows 95, so it should go under 98).. or else open Clipboard01.bmp in Paint and resize it to 256 pixels by 256 pixels, then save it.

And it does work, I promise.. I have it running here using exactly this.. nothing extra.

Starforce2 and atheorhaven,

You are right.  I used IrfanView to convert the JPG to BMP and now the Federation Travel Pod works in the Taldren Mod Viewer.  Hopefully it will work in SFC1 as well.

Thanks,

It should as long as you use a version that doesn't use illumination maps in the mesh.. but I'm glad that the corrected map is going for you now.  :)

And like I said, that's a quick fix until the final fix comes out.. ;)

Hi all,

The good news is ModelsPlease's Fed Travel Pod also works in SFC1 (not just the Taldren Mod Viewer, you were right atheorhaven).  ModelsPlease thanks for correcting the problem and thanks for making this model in the first place.

Here are some pictures of ModelsPlease Fed Travel Pod taken from within SFC1 (using the F12 Function Key):

03.  Travel Pod passing Work Bee 32 on the way to the Enterprise.

04.  Travel Pod inspecting the Enterprise's Primary Hull.

05.  Travel Pod turning starboard.

06.  Travel Pod starts docking with the Enterprise Bridge Docking Port.

07.  Travel Pod docking with the Enterprise.

08.  Travel Pod getting closer to the Enterprise.

Everyone,

This is, exactly, is why I mod.  :D

It's one thing to make a ship and release it, it's entirely another thing to see something you've done being used in someone's game.  Makes it all worth it to me.

Thanks for posting the screenies!

Btw, waiting for permissions to come across from Bernard, but if MP is good with it, and Bernard is, I've done up some colored illumination maps for the TravelPod that use one of the benefits of SFC 2.. self illumination.

Lets you do some nifty things like put people inside ships and make it look "not weird".  ;)

What I've done is take Bernard's portrait shot from the forum here, and put him into the TravelPod behind the helm, did up the colored illumination maps for the two main textures, and then did a render with one of my old backgrounds.  Turned out pretty decent, I think.

But here's a teaser shot for the illuminations, and barring any "No"'s from MP or Bernard, I'll send them over to MP.  :D

ATheorhaven sent me his glows for my little travel pod, and it got me thinking.... this first one is very primitive and not very good (mesh wise) and since you guys really like this very over looked little design I thought I owed it to the community to address this one with the same attention I give the big ships so here's the new model. Oh and YES Bernard will be included in the new textures LOL
