Installation Instructions (Windows Vista) :

On systems still in default out of box condition :

Vista still running on Default out of box settings will have many problems with older games.. this simple guide will allow you to run most of your old software simply and easily. This method will leave only 1 account on your machine (Administrator). If you have others using your system, then I suggest either reinstalling the OS from scratch or install on a different machine which you can set up only 1 account. Windows User Accounts makes a Shadow Sharing account that will kill older games because the Main program of your games is not designed to swap between accounts, even the shadow account. This method below is tested and proven to work on Windows Vista 32 bit Home Basic and Home Premium and Ultimate. This method is not yet tested on Windows Vista 64 bit systems.

1. Log on to machine as Administrator

2. Go into your control panel

To update your system completely, check your Windows Update settings to see if you are including all content, not just critical updates. Use your Windows Update manual control in control panel under System and Maintainence. Mod Chooser Usage Instructions (Please Read all instructions prior to installing the Mod)

1) Read the information of the Mod before installing.. make sure that your game is in the settings required by the Mod.. as such, after Orion Pirates install, you should have only 1 Mod installed.. Mod Chooser will have 2 choices (if you installed Orion Pirates Enhancement Package correctly).. 1 for Taldren's Original setup and the other for the OP + setup. Please check with the instructions of the Mod for which setup your game needs to be in prior to the Mod Install.

2) Mod Chooser will back up everything that the Mod Installs EXCEPT for mission scripts.. if the Mod is installing Mission Scripts, then it is highly recommended to back up your existing mission scripts into a separate directory prior to installing the Mod... the Mission Scripts will have to be manually swapped with the ones added by the Mod... Current Dynaverse Servers are using the mission scripts currently installed by Orion Pirates Enhancement Package v4.0, however some Mods may contain custom missions and/or older versions of scripts that are in the Enhancement Pack and to preserve the integrity of the scripts currently installed, a backup of the scripts is recommended... If you Mod is for a Dynaverse Server.. 9 times out of 10 all you will need is the Shiplist and ftrlist files, the model.siz file and the Met_NWConfig.scr (backup original script file). If a server is using Custom models, then you will need their Models install... for the easy way to install for a Dynaverse, Backup your Scripts folder, install the Server Installer which the Dynaverse operator will provide, make a backup of the scripts folder again and label it for the specific server (or compare to your original scripts), then follow the steps below, and finally uninstall the Dynaverse Installer.. Mod Chooser will now have the Dynaverse set-up for ease of switching.. all you will need to do is put in the proper back-up of Scripts for the server in which you are playing on...

3) Install the Mod. When installing a Mod on top of Orion Pirates Enhancement Pack, Mod Chooser will allow you to assign it to a new slot provided that the Mod contains a new shiplist.

4) After installing the Mod, go into your Assets\Specs folder and check the last edited date on the shiplist.txt and ftrlist.txt files, compare the files to the shiplist.txt and ftrlist.txt files located in your Orion Pirates\MetaAssets folder.. if they differ in date and time, then copy the shiplist and ftrlist from Assets\Specs and OVERWRITE the ones in MetaAssets.

5) Double Click the Mod Chooser desktop Icon.

6) Mod Chooser will check for any altered shiplist files in the Assets\Specs folder...

   A) If Mod Chooser asks you to save the new Mod, then procede streight to step 7.

   B) If Mod Chooser does not ask you to save the new Mod, then follow these steps :

      a) Close Mod Chooser and go into your Assets\Specs directory and open your shiplist.txt file with either Notepad or Excel.

      b) In the topmost line of the shiplist, find a spot in the first sentence and add a period (.)

      c) Save shiplist.txt and then copy the file.

      d) Open your Orion Pirates\MetaAssets folder and paste the shiplist into this folder. Say Yes to Overwrite.

      e) Re-launch Mod Chooser and continue with Step 7.

7) Give the Mod a new name then go to the next step of the Mod Chooser setup process..

8) You can choose to assign the Mod to a new empty slot or to overwrite a different mod already installed.. it does not matter which slot you choose.. it will erase the chosen slot and add the content of your current Mod to your chosen slot.

Stock Maps that Taldren included with the original game.. No changes to the maps are done. all that was done for the maps is that the Batch file swaps them correctly for Storyline and Conquest mode.

Hope this helps

I downloaded and installed it my vista ultimate computer.  logged in, and got onto the boneyard.  It froze when I tried to enter a mission.  Is this a common complaint?  This is a definite improvement over what I was going through before though.

There are still issues with Vista and Dynaverse..

Gamespy arcade, TCP/IP and Single Player works

Dynaverse is having a problem on Microsoft's end with Directr Play compatibility between XP's DirectX 9.0c and Vista's DirectX 10.1

Until XP upgrades to Service Pack 3 and get Direct X 9.0LE, there may be issues.. however there may always be issues in the Direct X compatibility. The Directory server and Gamespy Arcade Verification system must also upgrade DirectX components, but even then there may be some connectivity issues.. There is a chance the game engine may have Direct X issues since the game was built for Direct X 7.0.. and no one has the game engine source to update it for Direct X 10.1

there fore if you are using Vista.. Dynaverse play will be a crawl.. If people run a Dynaverse server on Vista, there is some game function improvement, but there is still a lagging issue.. I'm working on a Viista solution, but don't get hopes up.

My question for you is, how is installing this effected if I cannot do a clean install from CD (since after moving 3 or 4 times the CD and jewel case have been lost)? I would assume that with the four options for install I could get away with using the "no patch w/ OP+4", but would this be bad?

Also, Is the link to D/L for the 5.0 or has that been fixed for 5.1? I read what you wrote about it but I guess its still hazy to me.

I won't be able to D/L this until much later tonight and won't be able to take "ye olde teste drive" until much later afterwards, but from what I have read, it is going to be one sweet ride.

Not the question I had. Was wondering if it was absolutely required to do the fresh OP reinstall. Seeing that I can't do such a thing, would I be able to use the enhancement.

And yeah, I know of that link. I posted on it back when I was trying to get my new Vista computer to work with a transferred OP. Works fine, btw. (and before anyone says "pirated software", it was transferred from my old XP rig. So its my copy :P)

OP enhancement will work on any install of OP.. Clean is the beat way to go since you have the least risk of losing a mod or causing CTD's because of a saved game...

however if your game is pretty much Stock, just delete any single player saved games, then run the OP Enhancement Package and use Option 3 or 4 and it should install fine..

Mods where you installed custom ships should be backed up

Custom Installation (for those who have custom models they do not wish to lose) :

1) Go to your Starfleet Command Orion Pirates\Assets\Models and  your Starfleet Command Orion Pirates\OPPLUS\Models directories. Copy both of the Models directories and paste them outside the Orion Pirates game directory. (you only need to copy the directory in which you have changed models out within the game)

2) Install OP Enhancement Package v5.1

3) Sort through your copied Models folders on a model by model basis using Taldren Model Viewer (Included in this package) and compare your model to the models installed by the Enhancement Package. Replace the models in the OP game directory with your custom models in whish you wish to use to play the game.

4) Keep a complete backup of your custom models outside the OP game directory in the event you need to uninstall the OP Enhancement Package. Usually this is done with Winzip or Winrar (to save HDD space).

This should work fine.. just remember to have the original Taldren v2552 shiplist and FTRlist in the Assets/specs folder and in the MetaAssets folder prior to OP Enhancement Package install so that the game does not CDT after OP Enhancement install.

I hope that this helps.

Greets all,

My question/issue concerns my Enhancement v5.1 install... my Mod Chooser gives me a Runtime error, though all other functionality appears as advertised. Could someone help out with this one? I am running Vista (sigh), and have tried uninstalling/reinstalling several times. Again, the only noticeable prob is as stated above.

Thanks for any help. Also, I am a new poster here, but have been playing SFB since my Army days in Panama back in the 80's. I am looking for any players in the Denver, CO area. :)

Not really sure what to do to fix it.
Been years since i've put OP into my machine.. pretyt much gave up due to some XP related issues.

That error usually pops up when you patch the game with Anti-Virus still running... Turn off Anti-Virus, reinstall game, run OP Enhancement (patch and all), Turn Anti-Virus back on.

Also problem sometimes exists if you have patched the game with a different patch then running the 2552 patch.. the 2552 patch comes in 1 flavor.. Stock game to latest edition.. you can not install patch incrementally ..

Check these things out and see how it goes..

Also hopefully within a week or so.. OP Enhancement Pack v6 will be out.

It will include new NW mission scripts for the Dynaverse.. and maybe a new OP + package to include more formidable planets.

Also the Campaigns for Single Player will display correctly so that players will be able to see the EEK campaigns as compared to Stock.

So as you see.. people have a lot going on..

Dizzy and Firesoul should be working on a new OP + pack that will incorporate I, Mudd's Planet Package (reworked HP's and Textures) any maybe Fallen Warrior's Texture Pack for the planets (players will have to sort out which textures that they want and probably install manually or I may make a batch file for it)

Great things are coming.. and with the new planets.. planet assaults are now going to be a nightmare.

Wait for the new package.. it will be out soon.. I just need to get the new material..

The scripts installer is ready, but I need the new OP + and texture packages.. then I need to set up a batch file that will allow you to swap them easily... Diz is trying to push the new OP + out within a week.. It should take me just a few Min to make OP + HC out of it and about 2 hours to make properly working batch files for swapping the textures.. then 30 min to edit the read me.. then approx 20 min to make the installer.. then 2 hours to upload it here.. however I am also recreating my old web site and will upload the package to it..

Hope that this helps

If need be.. and you really want this package.. give me until tomorrow afternoon and I will get it on my site..

I solved the problem.
The error pops up if I use the shortcut that is copied from the OP root folder.
If I use the shortcut that is put into my start menu, It loads up great.
Been playing on and off for the last few days, and it's really reminded me why I spent so much time with the game.
Great work, look forward to the next version.

Just be careful.. the Start Menu runs the SFCOP.EXE file, which has MANY, MANY game altering bugs..

The game must be launched with the StarfleetOP.EXE. The shortcut should point to this file.

running the game,, make sure in Vista that you have UAC turned OFF.

User Account Control is not what allows people to have multiple accounts.

User account control is a shadow layer that is supposedly designed  to protect the current user.. however it interferes with Non Vista made software..

It is a WOAH, not WOW feature of Microsoft Vista that really hinders system performance..

This is a major issue in Vista.. Google it and see how many problems people have with UAC turned on.. the problem you are experiencing with SFC is a prime example of having UAC turned on when trying to play from the StarfleetOP.exe..

Microsoft was kind enough to put in a Compatibility for UAC on the SFCOP.exe, however that is the bugged EXE file.

To play the game with the minimal ammount of bugs possible, you need to disable UAC and run from the Starfleetop.exe

If you want Lockups, fighters missing, keyboard not working, fighters not responding to commands, ships not appearing.. then use the SFCOP.exe

Hope that this helps.

I made most of the Evil Dave single player campaigns.. if you mean the scripts.. the single player scripts are only available in the OP Enhancement Package now.. Nuclear Wessels only has the Dynaverse missions in his downloaders now..

Anyhow.. when the new package comes out, it will have all the current missions included.. but right now I am waiting on Firesoul and Dizzy to get the new OP + out the door so I can build a new pack.. but Dizzy has been away for a while.. and we are trying to figure out the best textures to use in the new planet models.. the new planets will be worth the wait.

Firesoul is the creator of the OP + Mod.. Dizzy is helping him fix bugs that were found in the previous package.. also New models came out for planets that make them much tougher to attack because the weapon hardpoints have been relocated.. Dizzy and Firesoul need to figure out which textures for the planets will look the best for the OP + Mod..

If Diehard wants to work on it.. all he has to do is contact Firesoul and I am sure he could help.

as for the OP Enhancement Package.. I want to get another one out the door.. but I am going to wait on the new OP + package.

I attempted to install this package just a few minutes ago. It kept saying something about the 2.5.0.0 to 2.5.5.2 update.. that it wasn't in the path or something of that nature. Very peculiar error, like it wasn't in the package. The package then failed to install completely. I doubt it's a corrupt download, but I'll try it again later.

It appears to run most of the mods, but miss others. It's as though they're missing from the package.

Attempting a dynaverse connection now gives this result:

Unhandled Exception!
tSettings::GetList
tWonLogon::tWonLogon
tWonLogon::Instance
tState_MetaLogon::mEnter
tGameStateMgr::BeginState
tGameStateMgr::mSetGameState
tGameStateMgr::mGoToNextGameState
tGameStateMgr::mGoToNextGameState
tGameState::mGoToNextGameState
tState_Namespace_GameConnections::tState_GameConnections::mHandleTransportEnable
tState_Namespace_GameConnections::tState_GameConnections::mWorkIt
tGameStateMgr::mWorkIt
tGameStateMgr::mWorkIt
tSfcApp3d::mPreRender3D
tApp3dBase::mFrameRender
tSfcApp3d::mHeartbeat
tMyApp::mHeartbeat

Does something similar in single player on new campaigns right after you select race. Looks messy.

I am guessing a few of the path references may be off. I know the registry's clean of any other instances of sfc op or eaw as I completely deinstalled it all manually to do a clean over-write.

My only hope is a re-download will clean it up or that someone may notice something internal to the package that needs touched up. Otherwise, not sure what the problem is.

What you need to do is

1, delete the saved games .. saved games will not work when the game is patched..

2, when you install the OP Enhancement Pack and/or the game.. Make sure the Anti-Virus is turned off.. I listed specific instructions at the beginning of this post for you to install the game.

3, Your game has to be in a clean configuration before installing the OP Enhancement Package.. in other words.. anything you added to the game since install must be removed prior to the Package install.. after the package installs, you can replace content back into your game.. however, if you had scripts.. this package has almost all of the newest scripts available for Dynaverse and GSA and Single player play.

4. If you were using a game patch that was not v2552, you must reinstall the game.. the package contains the v2552 (latest) game patch and will not upgrade any previous patch.. it can only install on a clean install.

5. if you have patch v2552 already installed, use the install option that skips the v2552 patch.

From what it sounds like, you did not follow the complete install instructions I posted with the package.. Most likely is that the OP Enhancement Package installed the game patch with your Anti-Virus running in the background... Anti-Virus MUST be disabled to install the game patch or the game will corrupt.

Hope that this helps.

Okay, trying it again, redownloading just for making sure I have a clean install file. Wiped out everything from sfcop including saves. All viruses/firewalls off. Cmon SFCOP do not fail me now. I really miss dynaverse.

Appears the issue was caused by a faulty .exe download or I hadn't wiped out enough of the old install, it appears to be functioning now. Can't believe such a little bit of content left behind might would cause such a fuss.

running the game,, make sure in Vista that you have UAC turned OFF.

User Account Control is not what allows people to have multiple accounts.

User account control is a shadow layer that is supposedly designed  to protect the current user.. however it interferes with Non Vista made software..

It is a WOAH, not WOW feature of Microsoft Vista that really hinders system performance..

The only thing that I would like to say about UAC, is that some software will NOT install with UAC turned off (such as Adobe Reader)
I kinda like the idea behind UAC, but I wish they had made it so that you can customise what flags the UAC prompt. For instance, I would like to have it pop up when accessing my registry, but having it pop up when I want an elevated comand prompt is annoying.

Sorry for making an 'off topic' post, I just wanted people to be aware that leaving UAC off, can result in some rather cryptic errors when installing 'some' software. I believe the error that Adobe Reader pops is an error saying that the disk is full or write protected. Although, UAC only needs to be on during the install, afterwards, it can be turned off again with no negative side effects that I can see.

NP on the off topic post.. for UAC, I recommend TweakUAC utility.. it does what you ask.. it can put UAC into quiet mode and makes Windows Defender flag when changes are made to your start-up and registry files by an application and thay you have to give permission for.. however UAC will not keep asking you to to approve your software.. however, I would find the directory in which it installed and right click, select properties, and then go to security tab and give each user, 1 at a time, full access.. this way you can adjust files using 3rd party utilities. I would also find every EXE file and put into compatibility mode for XPSP 2 AND also make them run as administrator. This will prevent any errors from occurring.. However this still does not allow for proper play on the D2.

Look here  http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=5169  there is a link to a installer.  Let me know if that helps.

Age.. How many times have you read my postings? How many times have I stated that before you install anything to your computer concerning the SFC games, to turn off Anti-Virus? in the case of AVG, you need to turn off Active Shield when doing any installs to your computer.., this includes DirectX updates, SFC installers, Driver updates, Windows Updates, etc.. AVG sees any installer as a potential threat and the installer fails to complete.. or the installer hangs up.. You need to turn Anti-Virus off..

And when playing online, make sure that your Firewall and Anti-Virus is disabled to help prevent loss/corruption of information packets between games.

I unistalled it and turned off AVG the E-Pack only I do have Windows Defender as well.I then went ot install it with AVG off and in the single player camaagin after choosing a one pressing start camapaign it then froze on me my whoe system this is a new system as well with Intel Dual Core duo 3.0 Windows XP SP3.This never happened on my other Machine being a P4 1.5 Windows XP SP2.I installed everything separately as 4.0 had a problem with something as Bonk posted.I was just wondering can the scripts be installed separately as well as everything else.The single player skirmish doesn't give me any problems just the camapaigns selector and I have not tried the Multi player selector.

I have AVG,Windows Defender,Windows FireWall and Spybot S & D.I do keep this all on when playing Guild Wars to keep hackers and or key loggers getting on to my system.

What do you mean by this?I don't like having my machine freezing up like this and I have to shut it down and reboot.

OK.. any time you use an installer for the Starfleet Command games (SFC Installers) you have to have Anti-Virus turned off

Also, If you have any saved games, any updates tothe game means that you have to delete the saved games.

If you play a game, you have to make sure that you are either in Campaign mode or Conquest Mode and you have to pick 1 shiplist to play the game.. If you change Shiplists or Campaign modes, you will not be able to continue a previous saved game until you change your game back to the settings you had when you first started the saved game.

I did what you said and I turned anto virus off when I went to reinstall OP E-Pack I got the samething CDT and MS report to send to them and I said no.I then took that install folder and placed it else where.I unistalled the E-Pack and reinstalled everything separately and I went into the single player campaign and picked Fed vs Isc custom (storyline)it worked like a charm no problems.I am not sure what is going on as this is a new PC I am playing with Win. XPSP3 and my video card is fine as it plays Guild Wars just great.

I did not install the dLL or I might have.

I know about the save campagin files delete them.

I'm waiting on Firesoul / Diehard to get the next OP + done.. ance ready, I will upgrade the OP +..

If it is going to take a while, then I'll dive in and set up the current OP + with the new planet models packs and make an intermittent release...

I'll give it another 2 weeks or so before I dive into it.

Hope that this helps.

Okay it's been two weeks.

Although I'd love to have a new Enhancement project release to play with I am very content with maybe a behind the scenes update.

I really hope all of your fine work collecting these updates will be compatable with SFC4.

What your wrote for a reply was really all I was looking for regarding news.

All of your enhancement packages have been well worth the wait.

The only question that remains is: Do you know if all your enhancement packages will be compatable with SFC4? I'm hoping they are...

SENSE OF HUMOR ALERT:

I'll take my answer off the air...

SFC 4 will be using different file structures and programming languages and different game engine.. as such, I do not think the OP Enhancement Pack will be applicable to SFC 4.. however I will continue to support OPE as new content for OP comes out And I will also create an SFC 4 Enhancement Package as material becomes available.

Hope this helps

SG 9 and the new planet pack will be done concurrently. Integration into a new OP+ will be done when FS is damned good and ready... Or it aint OP+. But for him to mod it, the Planet pack will have to be flawless... and small install wise. We want to retain a small download for the no models version of OP+ which will have models, the planet models, replacing the broken stock planet meshes... So we will just have to see how it all shapes up. Its going to be a lil while.

I followed all of the instructions with a clean install of OP and the 5.1 package for vista. Set all of the shortcuts to xp compatibility mode, etc... mad sure to create the right OP shortcut. Anytime I try to run one of the campaigns, the game crashes. Also, some of the campaigns are listed twice.

Another question:

After reading here for some time I still can't seem to log onto Dynaverse II. When I go to the multiplayer section and select it asks for a user name and password. Where do I register for it?

You need a gamespy arcade account to login to the dynaverse. But the dynaverse only works partially on Vista. For full functionality run OP on XP.

Download and install the free version of gamespy arcade and at some point during the install you should be able to create an account. (it used to be right on the webpage...) Good luck finding a nickname. Basically you only get the one you want if you pay, so I suggest something random like "idfgyugskjfbksjg". DO NOT pay them.

As for the singleplayer campaigns installed by the Enhancement pack, I'm not sure. Perhaps there are campaigns there that require certain shiplists and scripts? I have never used it myself.

I don't have access to XP. I could create another partition and install xp on that (I'm running Vista on a dual boot Mac), but I don't have a XP install disc and don't have the $120 + to go buy one just to play OP.

So If I want to play the campain with the base game, what exactly should I install besides the 2552 patch? Anything else? There are so many patches and add ons, directory fixes etc.. and I can't seem to find a good guide to what I need. I thought the 5.1 enhancement would be the thing, but the game is even crashing in skirmish mode now, but not immediately like the campaign does which happens when it tries to load a new one.

What is limited in dynaverse runing Vista? Also, do I log on to it while running OP and selecting dynaverse entering my gamespy account info there, or just run gamespy arcade?

I just got the game based on the recommendation of a friend, now that I have an Intel machine, that I used to play SFB with years ago. What my main goal is, is to be able to play through the single player campaigns and also play online vs my friend. The Dynaverse looks great, but I'm still not sure exactly what it is; is it a online campaign system? My buddy thought dynaverse was long dead but digging around I found this site.

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would proceed as outlined here:
http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163359567.0.html
(up to step five)

Oh, and to avoid queer vista virtualisation crap, create a folder on the root of your disk: C:\SFC  Ensure this folder has full permissions for the user(s) that will install and run the game. Then install SFC to a sub folder of it. The "Program Files" folder in vista is a mess and not very useful. (will prevent a number of aspects of the game from working properly)
e.g. My vista OP install location: C:\SFC\Taldren Software Inc\Starfleet Command Orion Pirates
Vista's folder virtualisation is probably what is crashing your campaigns, it will redirect the location of the campaign database and the game will be unable to find it.

Vista adversely affects Dynaverse login (usually takes multiple attempts to get past the firewall detector), and causes unacceptable lag on the strategic map. (I suspect changes to windows sockets are to blame)

The dynaverse is an online campaign system where you move around on the map, supply etc. and take missions - if there are other players in your hex, they will be drafted into your mission (essentially a direct tcp/ip game orchestrated by the dynaverse server) - The defence value of the hex the mission was taken in may change depending on the outcome of the mission.

Pestalence has a good guide for OP on gamepsy on Vista around here somewhere...

Though you will find OP works much better on XP. We are still seeking a solution to Vista compatibility. So far our best hope is Sun Virtualbox, but currently the game will not even run on an XP guest in Virtualbox. We have tried thousands of combinations of configurations, stripping vista down to the bare services required to run. I suspect the problem is in the kernel code and how it affects windows sockets. Windows 7 suffers the same problem.

We are in the planning stages of developing an open source sfc that will compile and run on a wide variety of platforms. (will take a number of years at least).

You may also want to install EzINI: ftp://www.dynaverse.net/sfc2_op/Tools_and_Utilities/setup-ezini.exe
again, to a subfolder of C:\SFC
e.g. C:\SFC\KhoroMag Gaming Services\EzINI

I just dled this to my 1.5 P4 machine my older PC.When I did this I got the shiplist being OP+4.0 HardCore not your regular OP+4.0 with tugs.I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and to came out agian as Hard Core.I tried playing a single player camp and I got a CTD.I switched to Taldren 2552 and it worked fine.

I got a copy of OP+4.0 from my duel core PC and installed it eveything worked fine no CTD.There is only one problem and no sound only music.This does not happen on my duel core PC and not with Taldren's 2552 only OP+4.0.

I noticed the files are WAV not WMP files althought it plays fine on my duel core pc and Tadren's 2552.I am not sure why only OP+.

All I can say is that the installer installs some game fixes, Scripts, then Models, then Mod Chooser then it installs OP+ v4.0, then places OP + Hardcore.. if you exited mod Chooser without setting up OP + v4.0, that is where your problem is..

It is set to install and launch Mod Chooser to set Taldren Default, then once you exit and continue, it will install OP + v4.0 .. after that it launches Mod Chooser again to set OP + v4.0 or the first Mod slot, then after exiting and continuing, OP + Hardcore (GSA only shiplist) get's installed, then Mod Choosee launches again for you to assign it to Mod slot 2..

After that EZ-INI, more scripts and Shipedit and Model viewer gets installed.

Sounds like a step was skipped and maybe the DoS window was rushed instead of taking things step by step.

as for sounds.. No sound files are changed with this install, only the sound loop fix is implimented by way of Firesoul's OP + v4.0 and Firesoul's Fighter / sound fix file.

All other sound files ae original and untouched.. it only fixes the ESG sould loop bug.

Dunno what to say.. reinstall with AV turned off?

Since I installed this, I've been having an issue. If I play any of the Conquest single player missions, I tend to get enemy ships as allies instead of my own race. Example: If I'm flying a Klingon cruiser and try to invade Federation space, I get Federation ships as my allies.

The same thing happens in the non-conquest version of single player mode, but only if I'm in any of the campaigns marked "custom."

Is there any reason to play these "custom" ones over the apparently regular ones?  And is this issue something I can fix or was it created by something I did or didn't do during the install?

Are you sure the feds are your enemies in that campaign?  Right click on a fed hex, and see what their diplomatic status is.

I didn't check in the non-conquest single player campaign marked "custom," but I did look at the hexes in the conquest campaign. In that, EVERYONE is supposed to be an enemy. If I was flying a Klingon ship, it shouldn't matter where I go, the only allies I get should be Klingon ones and everyone else is a target.

You might want to bring this up inthe mission scripting forum.
