Hope this survives corrupted .max hell and makes it to light of day.. I'd love to see this in flight with the Gagarin and the forthcoming Miranda.  Smiley

Suggestion (and this always worked well for me).

When you're working on the mesh, whenever you save, also export the mesh to .3ds.  That way, if you have another corrupted mesh in Max, you can always reimport the .3ds and pick up right where you left off.  And if Max corrupts itself, you could still pull it into another program for conversion to that.  Smiley

My Daleks started off in Anim8or, then went into a couple of other programs for refining after that until they went into Max, then back out of Max after scaling and moving of parts.  I may use 5 different programs working on a mesh sometimes.  Cheesy  (It's called not working efficiently with what you have).  Wink

I prefere teh save copy function better, it'll add numbers to the end of the file name for ya so you don't have to worry about saving over something you didn't want to.

O and what version of max are ya working in?

One final method...the "my name is Raven, I am a moron" method. It is very effective.

If you have enough room, simply save your progress EVERY SINGLE TIME you make a change. Save it to a different file, like David1.max, then David2.max and so on.

Now I save every stage of the models development, but you dont have to do that. It allows me to go back as far as I want or need to...sometimes the direction I go is all wrong and I have to go back about 6 or 7 steps, or maybe want to use a piece of a prior version in the current mesh.

Since I am a professional idiot by trade (closed max many times when I had not saved my work) as well as having to deal with corruptions, both this method and Max's autoback prevent loss.

Of another note, I keep both DVDRW disks and a seperate external hard drive that I back up my work to periodically using the program Compare and Backup. Keeps the process simple.

Just some things to think about.

well, looks at it this way, you will probably find a better way to make it this time around, and considering how fast ya made it, I'm not too worried.

I saw on BCC they were talking about the negative aspects of making the ship MVAM capable, and I just though it might be pertinent to point out that the Delta Flyer had moving warp nacelles, nested inside the warp engine assemblies....and thats a pretty small ship. Even smaller than the Raven.

I don't know an Oberth that could separate would be cool, the top section could land with ease allowing the "star drive" section to conduct any and all space based activities, not to mention how easy was to take out an Oberth, the added benefit of having a larger more capable craft to serve as a lifeboat is always handy. Even if it isn't MVAM its still a feature that makes this Oberth design a class above the others I've seen

Thanks man, i think raven meant in regard to the marcus commuinty project i have..   but thanks fw and yeah, after i have built the newraven class im definately coming back to this but im going to jump even further forward with the design and overall shape.. a super future type of oberth, that will have blended in mvam features.. going to make it larger too at say 250m, leaving the two seperated parts at approx a simular size to the original..

any ideas you guys see on the net or things you would like to see just throw em in here..
