Excalibur Retexture WIP
« on: March 15, 2004, 09:44:35 pm »
Well here is the last of the Federation Fleet I was working on, then it is off to the Romulans for some work. It will be a bit before any of the Romulans get released as I will have to Learn what works and doesn't for them and that takes a while to do. So with out anymore delays here is the WIP of the last of the Federation ships I am working on, the Excalibur.

This is the Dreadnaught version I will also release a Heavy Cruiser version as well

-enjoy!

Aye 'tis cool, but 'tis no dreadnought ye got there boy. LOL Seriosuly though, there is a proper dreadnought version by Nightstorm called the Justice class, it was on Eras of War which should mean it'd be available on the SFU database. It has a torpedo pod and 2 nacelles coming out of the top of the saucer.

It isn't the Odyssey class Alternate Configuration is it in a fod.zip?

If so I have it, it was released as a BB by Pneumonic81. That was the one I was redoing as a Excelsior styled texture and dropped it, was not coming out right.

LOL, seriously it's an Excalibur variant by Nightstorm, I've sent the .MOD files and the extra textures for the torpedo pod to your email.

Got the files and it does look more like a Battleship than a Dreadnaught. Since the only additional texture is the torpedo pod I think I can squeeze this one in as well and have three releases.

I've always wondered, are the excalibur saucers the same size as the excelciors? Or are they larger? I am fairly sure they are ment to be larger than TMP sacuers. I want to get an idea of how much bigger the  excalibur version of the miranda(with the galaxy nacelles) is compared to the original  miranda.

It was suppose to be scaled as a NCC or NCA so it should be about 20% larger than a FCL. As forthe other comparison the Excalibur should be larger by about 5-10% just by comparing the windows on the saucer section.

Alright!

The lower hull is done Pictures will follow in just a bit. This will be a 4-5 ships release, that will include a Spade Class, Excalibur Class (in a Dn, CA, AND BB versions) and a Updated Don Rosa Class. All these will be released at one time and in seperate downloads but I am not going to update as I finish each ship Like I have done in the past, so Patients will be needed here.

Hmmmm...maybe you can do what you did with one of your Excelsiors and make three engines textures. One "main" textures and a couple of alternates. Then later if you want to include more, have another file of texture sets.

Just a suggestion.

Might just do that...

Don't know though as the first set is taking me a long time trying to figure it all out, so I don't know if I will have the patients it takes to do more than the first one I finish.

Well the first of 4 is now available and ready for download.

The Spades includes a few extra textures in it as well, as well as a updated engine rear cover. She is available in the retexture section as the Spades_Retexture on the second page here.

Little write up for the spades to give an idea of how to use her:

This ship is about 10% larger than a FCL, and has multiple textures available. The first is with one shuttle bay that can be used as an attack ship or long ranged scout. The second has two top opening bays that would allow it to be used as a troop ship with larger quater areas behind the bays. The last one is useful as a priorty cargo carrier and has three bays to allow rapid transfer of materials. This version can also be used as a shuttle carrier or escort carrier. The Spades classes most noticible feature is the over sized warp engines for greater speed, and the large torpedo launcher on the top.

enjoy!

The other two I was working on are more of a TMP style and they are all on the iffy list of completion right now, because of time restrainants.

Haven't had the time to work on these ships for the last week. The CA version is the farthest along as I chose that ship for the one with the simpliest version of the engine textures. So I well probably release that one soon, I still have Registries to do and to check it in game for size. The CA version will be out by this weekend more than likily, but the others will be a while before they are finished; April is normally a busy month for me.

Alright the CA version is done no Pictures are included in this update it is late and i am to tired to edit up the screen shots for now. I will do them tomorrow and then place that one up for download, with the current engine textures. The Ship is the USS Philadelphia, NCC-26123 and is a Excalibur Class Cruiser, I included in the ZIP the HP jpegs so you know what HP does what. There are no Alternate Textures for the ships warp Engines in this file, those will come later on the DN, and a single set on the BB. It is sized to be slightly bigger that the standard Taldren CA but the fire power of a Dreadnaught.

So pictures and Download will be up tomorrow some time, I will post here when it is ready.

Alright!

the CA version is now done and out hiding in the Downloads section. It has the simplier version of the Engine textures that the DN and BB will have. They will all be interchangable so one set will fit the other ships as well, for a mix and match. These versions will be in the DN download when it is finished, they will be without registries on them in the ALT directory. So there will be two more ships to come through this process, the BB will probably be next as all the finishings stuff will be with the DN version.

The ship can be found at the following link: Download!

Please don't forget to look through the other pages and sections, you never know what you might have missed.

There were two versions in the file.

One got changed around as I was trying to fix some Mesh errors that were present in the ship. So they are both there but one has less errors in it that the other. I had done this when I first got Milkshape and pretty much was a learn as i go process so it is not one of the better meshes I have up for download.

It's a Miranda saucer wioth 2 engeneering hulls from  a connie connected by pylons and about 3 miranda torp pods plus the normal connie nack  pods which you end up with 16 tubes. Basucily and uber dn. Though I wish someone would make a yamamoto out of it. *cough*hint*cough*

Heh! Heh!  Cooooool.

She's lookin' REAL good with those new engines!

She will be mine in a few hours.

I have to ask again ('cause I'm a pain that way), but do you have any plans to go back and do more textures on your Hickman?

And you know, you could do a real bang-up job on Mackie's Galahad, as I can plainly see from your Excalibur work...

Now back to the real subject...

The Explorer is one Mackie still wants me to do, but it is on the hold list. Once I get back to that ship then most of those are done as well, he used a Combination of the Explorer, and Excalibur to do that ship.

The Hickman is done I don't plan on going back to it at this time. The FCA, FCL, etc are all pretty much the same texture with different names. Since they are basically the same they will work on other ships using that style of engine, so they should be pretty much swapable already.

So still 2 two more Federation ships to go then they are done.

Hello, well If you count the one on the Rosa there are now 4 avaiable engine types. So here are more of the WIPs I have on the current Engines. One Set once completed will go on the BB and then that ship will get released. The last set I complete will go on this ship, and will end the Federation ship textures for awhile. I will include any engine textures that are releasiable to me in the DNs alt directory. Again the Alt directory ones will not hav the NCC numbers on them so that they can be as generic as possible for any of the 4 ships, plus what will fit Mackies works.

The one at the top showing the whole ship is one of my favorite ones so far, for the completed ones. The one on the lower left I was testing out if I wanted the Picture styled windows I had on the Orginal Don Rosa again, I decided to stop that one but included it as it was in a releasable state. The bottom right show the ship with the ones from the CA version on it. There are 3-4 more still in the WIP process not shown here 2 of which are more TMP looking, they are not shown as I am not done with them yst and they still need work. It is also the easiest way of dropping one in the trash can if I don't like it with out someone going but that was the one I wanted for the ship.

See...

Everyone always has a favorite, and this is what I mean by it is usually a mix and match that makes it. That one is not on the list Fury_of_a_Seraph but you should be able to do it pretty easily as to get the TMP intake you just have to turn the red area gray.

I know, but I was just saying some one always wants something you have not done or were not planning and boom, you posted exactly what I was talking about. I thought it was funny myself, but it did illustrate a point that WIPs tend to get you more work.

I finished the Last of the TNG looking ones and now have to finish up the TMP ones, all of which have the Black Buzzard collectors. I would have posted a WIP pic, but Mackies site seems to be down for me right now.

Alright!

The Dreadnaught version is done though the rest of the Engines are not, still have all the TMP ones to finish. One of the TMP versions will go on the Battleship version of this ship and the rest will go into the Dns' Alt Directory. This means the Dns' ZIP will be about 8-9 megs big, sorry to all you 56kers, but that is the price to pay for have more textures than the model needs. It does add to the fleet though as now any single ship type can use different textures to increase the amount of times you can use that ship.

I will post Pics later as I need to sleep now, she got the registry U.S.S. Odyssey NCC - 37248.

So 3-4 more textures and it will all be released, then the Federation Door is closed.
(except for the one I still owe Mackie, but that may never get released)

PS: so when are you going to release all those Excelsior Variants Fury_of_a_Seraph

why not release the nacelle textures as addon packs? That way those who  don't want/like them  don't need to dl them.

The add on Packs actually take up more room then including them in the ships zip. I will divided them up though between the BB and the DN to shrink down their files to about 6 megs apeice. And so, l since I have finished the Dreadnaught version and was just waiting on the additional textures to be finished. I decided to release this one and just add the other textures to the BB and make a Alt Directory for it.

This is what the finished ship looks like:

it can be downloaded here!

Yhe Explorer was the orginal ship by P81, or the Odyssey (4 engine version). The Galahad is a kitbash by Mackie, from the Explorer and Excalibur ships made by P81.

The original P81 ship was the Odyssey and it was a 3 nacelled DN with a roll-bar on the saucer. The Explorer is a 2 nacelled explorer (ha-ha) version sans the roll-bar

It was kind of started I was going for a excelsior style look to it. Currently it is on the dropped list as I did not like how it was coming out and I don't have the time to start it over again. Parts of it will be redone as Mackie wants some things from that ship so they will probably get into his personal collection. I do not know if or when the ship will get done but it will nto be any time soon, as once I finish this last ship here I will be taking a break and trying out some Romulans.

There are two version of the BB as well, the orginal file and a modified one by me. so after the engines get done I will have to do the pod and rescale everything on it. The texture was a 512 x 512 and used a small corner on it, I will make a better version covering more area and use that one instead.

WIP shot

so by next weekend all the Federation ships should be done and out.

the funny part is very few I believe are even looking through this thread any more. I will probably have to do a seperate thread for each of these ships once the last one is out, just so people know that they are available for download. It is something I noticed in the past that WIP thread for any ship are ignored after the first few looks if that is not a ship they wanted. Evan if there are 30 ships in that thread for download they will not see them or download them. Then once you place it in its own thread, all those people will then see the ships and if it interests them download them. There are exceptions to that though, there are some like KF who seems to go through every thread looking for ships these guys are the true collectors.

Heck, I've wanted every ship you've come out with! If this thread goes on for the next month, I'll keep peeking into it for and additions or updates.

most likely people are ignoring the thread because like regular tmp,  once you  see the  improvment you've made to  that, you automaticly know what the rest of the variants will look  like so people  just sit around and wait  for them to be released.

That and sometimes, how many threads can you respond to?  I know I run out of gas (and time)!

But while I'm here, let me say I think the work on these ships is quite good and in this case, I don't say much because I usually don't like three-nacelled ships; they somehow don't do it for me aesthetically.  But these last posted pix show a pretty nice model.

Well looks like it will be longer than that, things are not going as well as I hoped. I found some errors as I was texturing the pod that will force me to redo the placement of the engines. Plus the pod itself is given some problems, I just deleted the file by accident so it is back to the begininng for the pod texture. so this ship is now delayed until I can find time again, work just picked up for the next 3 days and the holiday is coming up.

Dooooo got to hate it when you delate something by accident. Maybe some good will come out of it, like the new pod will turn out better then you thought possible.

Well the ship is done but now I have a Hardpoint issue.

the FBB UI in SFC 2/OP doesn't have enough Phaser mounts for it. misses it by one. I can use the Mirik BB as a subsititute for it but it means I will have to move some HPs around to make it work. My only other choice is to use the Starbase one and that really will cause me to have to move things around. My third option is to simple delete the forward phaser on the saucer and reposition the the first two side ones (lots of work even more so than moving HPs.

so it brings up the the point what was the standard fix that use to be done for these things?

Guess no one knows then...

Well then the next question comes in, do I keep the UI federation or not?
if not then I will reHP it so it will use the Mirik UI, if Yes then I will reHP to use a starbase.

I will of coarse leave a HP.jpg in the file like I did with the others so you can match up the Hardpoints for the game.

Well look like the Mirik BB idea doesn't work the game will not load the UI, so you can not select weapons. That means I have to now redo all the HPs on the ship and will not be releasing it anytime soon. So now I have to see if the SB can be used for a ship or if that too will cause problems.

Man page 4 in less than 24 hours

Ok, so it is almost done now!

The HPs and DPs are done and all that is left is to make a pic to show the HP placement for the UI and it can be released. So it should be out as soon as I can find an hour to complete it, but definitly by the weekend. The readme will have text in it wit hte same information as the two jpegs as a backup.

and as with the rest of the advanced ships it has the 4 extra engine textures in the alt directory. This one also has two versions of the BB in it. The orginal as well as the one I modified in the picture above. As a Bonus I also put a CA version with the pod on it. All three share the same HP and DP info which now requires the FSB to make it work.

will post here when the Download is available, if I can still find this thread by then.
