TNG Andor-Class Torpedo Cruiser
« on: August 26, 2003, 02:27:03 pm »
Ok... over the last few days the Andor-Class Missile/Torpedo Cruiser has been making alot of noise in the Forums
So I'd thought I would Take a crack at putting my 2 cents in...so I decided to try a TNG version of this ship

This is what I have so far,\
Hope you enjoy

Top view

This is a side view, but without the nacelle and is showing the interior side of the cattamarang style hulll
the bold black lines are the outline of the ship in relation to the cattamarang style hulll:

Hrmmm. Honestly, I dont like the saucer. It seems too tall from the front and sides. Top view looks ok...

Overall, tho, it's a fine kinda prototype TNG Andor to build on...

I agree with Arachne; I would prefer a saucer that is not as 'tall'. However, overall, it clearly shows its design lineage. Well done!

LMAO You have seen the original version right???
http://www.shipschematics.net/startrek/images/federation/cruiser_andor.jpg

I tried to sleek out the design heavily...without losing its identity
It was designed by Andorians(in case anyone didn't know )
Mine was built by Atolmians...lol
j/k

OH...before I forget...
I need a free modeller(one of you guys who is not doing anything right now)
I would like if at all possible to have this ship modelled please
we can do it as a collaborated effort if you like

Thanks everyone in advance

Looks very cool, definetly shows the FASA Andorian design lineage, though I must agree with KF and Arachne about the saucer. Will this one have your hand-drawn textures when done or will it be like the Titan and be a fed grey?

I would Like you work with someone on it...
It will retain the colors(Andorian)...I mean worst come to worst...I guess I will do it
But I would preffer to collaborate on this design

I like it, and I have to be honest, I like the tall saucer too! I prefer to think of it as the top of a sphere, in my opinion it makes more sense for space travel. I hope something can come of this design.

I like the saucer too. A lot actually. Looking at the side shot in color there's lots of detail. different levels, angles, shapes, etc... I like moving the "sponsons" back off the saucer too, compared to the original. The saucer looks more TNG, that's all.

I like the TNG deisgn, not overly keen on the colours though. I think that the profile of the saucer fits in well with other TNG era designs, personally I would be tempted to make the saucer less circular and more elliptical, hehe.
Thin saucers are so passe now, can you think of a TNG ship with a thin saucer? Therefore, it stands to reason that a TNG remake such as this should have a saucer just as Azel has envisioned it here.

I think the shape of the ship is great, it's the colors I'm not too keen on. The tall saucer is very nie IMO.

If we can get both a "Normal fed textures" version along with any "Atolm" textures, I'll make the ship. Someone elese will have to texture it though. Maybe WZ can spare some time?

Nice!!!
Some possible Takers to model her
Hey Korah, How about You and Smiley get together and do the ship???
I wanted this to be a joint effort...so please??

And here's another Idea(just throwing it out there for some responses)
How's about the signage of the ship be in Andorian (like that Belknap class
that had Vulcan signage...the Raan was it???)
Also I may have a new version of the nacelle placement...look at this:

instead of side by side...how about vertical...and connected in different points???
Just another Idea

I wouldn't change the original drawing for the mesh. Of course, it's not my model I do like the 2 sets of txtrs idea, though. I like the idea of the Andorian (or Atolmian) textures to give it some racial identity. I realise though that some folks want their Feds in "one flavor".

Looks good to me for a TNG design. Its nice that somebody wishes to keep the Andorians in the front of TNG Consciousness. We can't just let ENTERPRISE  and FASA Trek give them all their glory! Naturally, you'll have to do TNG versions of the Thurfir, Lenthal and Northampton too ... BEWARE: The BLUE FLEET approaches.

I dunno, I still prefer the left-right arrangement, they're meant to be that way so the ship can steer at warp anyway but I just think it looks better with them side by side.

This model is really turning out to be a pain to mesh, mostly because of all the curved surfaces. I have found that if I make the model exactly like the drawing, it would easily be over 10,000polys! So I'm cutting some corners here and there, and using a few kitbash techniques to try and get the look right without using 1,000's of polys. I think it's going well so far. Finished the secondary hull today.

I appreciate all the effort that you're putting into this. It's a nice looking concept and it'll be great to have it reasonably low poly for game play. Sounds like I shouldn't shrink it down and use it as a PF though.

Well I got to work on it yesterday and spent the entire day on it. After a couple hours though it was apparent that I needed a new mesh. So, I scrapped the hull and started over from scratch. What I ended up with is MUCH better than the first attempt. Much more efficient use of polys, and I even was able to pass the previous extent of construction and add some detail that wasn't there before. So, I'm about the same place I was before, with a bit more detail, but a way better mesh to work with. By the time I was finished though the wife was home and it was too late to post the WIPS! So here they are!

Let the WIP's flow large!

Still looking good...I would re size the Triange shape on the dorsal saucer...as it is suppose to be similar the Soveriegn class except the impulse assemblies are now shuttle bays(sorry if I didn't show that clearly...My bad)
Also the main deflector alcove goes all the way up to the saucer(like the sovie) hope that helps

Great Job !!!

I'm not normally a TNG type of guy, but this design looks good. I'm very curious as to how this will turn out.

Ok, here is another WIP to show how things are progressing. I fixed the saucer section and the "cape" to Atolm's specs, re-smoothed the secondary hull, and started on the warp nacelle spars. I'm making the nacelles seperately and will drop them in when the rest of the main ship mesh is done. It shouldn't be long now!

Ok the mesh is finished. This is the over-and-under nacelle design. I'll make the side-by-side variant too as time permits. This is a bare mesh, with no textures, hardpoints, damage points, break model ect ect, and is just for texturing, not for playing with. Download the TNG Andor mesh  here.
